n Oregon Participates In Truck Crackdown Salem -dW- Oregon joined with 39 other states this month in a crack-down on ille gal transportation of goods by truckers. A series of check points were set up in Oregon, and all trucks were stopped and drivers questioned about the origin and destination of their load, the weight, and commod ity. MATTSON Funeral services for Clar ence M. Mattson of Yrekn, Calif., who died Thursday will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Merrill Presbyterian church, Merrill, Ore. The Bev. Wayne Wattman will officiate. Inter ment will be in Merrill ceme tery. Perl Funeral home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Mattson was born May 19. 1909. in Pine City, Minn. He was employed as a car penter in construction work in the Klamath Falls area for several years. For the past two years he made his home in Yreka. Calif. He was a vet eran of . World War II serving with the United States Air Force. He entered service in February, 1942, at Ft. Sneil ing, Minn., and was discharg ed in September of 1945 at Greenville, Miss. On Feb. 22, 1936, In Mer rill he was married to Melba Petterson. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Betsy Matt son, Tule Lake, Calif.; his daughter, Mrs. Shirley Hag gard, San Bernardino, Calif.; four brothers, John H. Matt son, Malin, Ore.; Melvin E. Mattson, Pine City, Minn.; Iver A. Mattson, Bandon, Ore.'; George B. Johnson, of 684 Ross lane, Medford, who died suddenly Friday, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Lewis Funeral chapel In Bremerton, Wash. The body will be sent to Brem erton Monday by Perl Funeral home. Mr. Johnson was born March 20, 1896, in La Moure, N. D. He farmed at Glenburn, N. D., for 30 years, then lived in Mossy Rock, Wash., for 15 years and had made his home on Ross lant for the past two years. He retired in June of 1961. - On July 18, 1921. in Glen burn, N. D., he was married to Esther Marie Garrison, who survives. Other survivors in clude two sons, Eugene D. Johnson, Centralia, Wash., G. Ray Johnson, Medford; two daughters, Mrs. Helen Stoner, Bremerton, Wash., Mrs. Eve lyn Ang, Yakima, Wash.; two brothers,. John E. Johnson, Glenburn, N. D., Herbert Johnson, Indiana; three sis ters, Mrs. Jessie Brown, Brem erton, Wash.; Mrs. Nellie Tur ner, Fargo, N. D.; Mrs. Mable LaFleur, Mayville, N. D., and 13 grandchildren. GARY MERRILL MICIIAELVnUJING MIYOSHI UMEKI SUMNER A. PARKER Ashland - Sumner Austin Parker, 66, died Friday eve ning at hit home at 2895 Highway 66. He was born In Klamath Falls Dec. 24. 1896. He mar ried Minnie Owen in Rogue River on Oct. 6, 1915. The couple made their home in Klamath Falls for a few years, then moved to San Francis co. They established, their home in Ashland in 1918. Their home was known as the Owen ranch. Mr. Parker served in the civil air patrol during World war rwo, spending a year and a half at the Mexican border. He tqok his air train ing under the late "Tex" Rankin of Portland. He es tablished the Ashland airport as his private flying field. It is now leased by the city of Asniand. Mr. Parker was a mem ber of Elks lodge 944. He is survived by his wife Minnie, a daughter Yvonne, both of Ashland; two sisters, Mrs. Max Filson of Mt. Heb ron, Calif., and Mrs. Dana Campbell of Medford. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tues day in Litwiller's Mountain View chapel, with the Ash- land Elks lodge in charge of the service. Cremation will follow. LESLIE S. VAN WAGONER Leslie S. Van Wagoner, 62, a resident of the Veterans Ad m i n i s t r a tion Domiciliary, White City, since October, 1962, died Friday. Funeral ar rangements will be announced by Perl Funeral home. LLOYD KENNETH IVY Lloyd K. Ivy, 56, of 824 West 13th St., died Friday eve ning in a local hospital. Fu neral arrangements will be announced by Conger-Morris Funeral Directors. MARTIN B. WEBB Martin B. Webb, long time resident of Medford and for mer operator of the War Eagle mine in southern Oregon, died Thursday in Yreka, Calif., where he had been living for the past 15 years. WWTS PERMISSION TO SWAT HIM AOCOD ONE, Local and Personal Police Investigate - Central Point police are investigating the theft of a 3 horsepower electric motor which was tak en from a chemical fertilizer tank at the Grange Co-Op some time between June 1 and June 8. The theft was reported by Donald M. Patter son, manager of the Grange Co-Op. Also under investiga tion is the theft of a rifle and shells from the Union 76 serv ice station. According to Mrs. Thelma Owens, 234 North Front st., who reported the theft, the rifle and shells were taken some time between May 23 and June 10. Door Handle Stolon-Clyde William Kell, box 153, Gold Hill, reported a door handle was stolen from his pickup truck as it was parked at Mc Andrews rd. and Boardman st. The chil dren's father is associated with Grace Steamship line Rooster Crowing Contest Slated Rogue River-The 1963 Na tional Rooster Crowing con test will be held at Rogue River Saturday, June 39. The annual event, formerly staged on the third Saturday in June, was delayed to per mit the development of a more extensive program. This year, the Crow will take on more of a home town carnival and fair atmosphere. ccording to Millie Oliver, publicity chairman for the Rogue River Chamber o( Com merce sponsored event. Cash prizes will be award ed, as usual, to the rooster crowing the most times during a given period on the day of the contest. The contest will open at noon. Offering advice to prospec tive contestants, the commit tee suggests that owners cage their birds for several days be fore the contest and move them Into new surroundings so they will be well adjusted when they arrive at Rogue River June 29. It is also best to keep the cage covered or aarx until close to contest time. "When the wraps are taken oft, the bird is then deceived into thinking that morning has come and he starts crowing," the committee noted. Central Point, on a charge of nonsup- port, and John David Abel, 52, Grants Pass, on a charge of forgery. Council to Meet-The next regular meeting of the Med ford Building Trades Council will be held at the Carpen ters' Hall, 123 Mi West Main st., Medford, Wednesday, June 19. The session is sched uled for 7:30 p.m., R. M. Har grove, president of the coun cil, announced. House Entered - Burglars forced a rear door at the Ar thur William Tomlln resi dence, 4135 Cedar lane, Phoe nix, but apparently were un able to break into the rest of the house, sheriff's deputies reported late last week. Some one forced a chain holding the rear door which entered into a porch bedroom. Noth ing was reported taken, depu ties said. 0 Whoels Stolen - Two tires and rims were stolen from a car parked overnight on the Dead Indian rd., Oregon slate police reported. The theft oc curred when Robert Voris, 954 Siskiyou blvd., Ashland, left his car parked alongside the road. When he returned in the morning, the wheels were gone.
