Prime Minister
Again in Cabinet
Crisis Meeting
Londoh - (UPH - Prime Min
ister Harold Macmillan fought
for his political life at a cris
is meeting of his cabinet for
the second time in two days
today and political observers
said the next 24 hours might
determine the fate of his gov
ernment. The 69-ycar-old Conserva
tive party leader made it
clear to his ministers includ
ing three or four reported to
be considering resigning -that
no matter what they did
he would seek to lead his re
gime through the crisis caused
by the Profumo sex scandal, i
'No Comments'
Cabinet members filed
grimly out of the meetings,
most of them returning curt
no comments to questions.
Minister of Health Enoch
Powell, reported In both na
tional afternoon newspapers
to be "on the brink' 'of re
icnation, hurried away his
face set and unsmiling.
Political observers said one
major resignation - such as
Powell's - might make it im
possible for Macmillan to hold
together an administration al
ready under fire not only
from its opponents but from
"the establishment, a term
which covers the church, pro
fessional class and aristocracy
from which it drew much of
Its strength.

sues," a comment echoed by
Deputy Prime Minister R. A.
Butler.
Debate Forced
Although the Labor party
has forced a parliamentary de
bate Monday on the security
aspects of the Profumo case,
it appeared many political
figures and the public at large
were more concerned with
what the bishop of Southwark
called "the smel lot corrup
tion in high places.
Patrick Gordon Walker,
who would become foreign
secretary In a Labor govern
ment, returned from Moscow
saying, "It is time to clean

Fair Called Asset
To Jackson County
Ashland - An open class
fair in Jackson county would
be a "valuable asset to com

in a talk for the Ashland
Chamber of Commerce Tuesday.
Jennings is chairman of the
Greater Jackson County Fair
Development committee. He
outlined the goals the com

"Our ultimate aim is a large
and worthwhile county fair,"
he said. The committee feels
that if non fair type develop

A large area should be ac

county, Jennings said, urging
that purchase of land be made
soon before prices of land
climb higher.
The committee is desirous
of getting all organizations
concerned with taking part
in a fir together with the
county court for a meeting in
order to develop a master
plan, he said.

Two Republicans, Sens.

assembly.
As usual, the assembly,
which passed a larger version
of the budget earlier in the
week, was expected to refuse
to accept the senate measuru.
This will force the budget
bill Into a free conference
committee of three assembly
men and three senators.
Republicans had threatened
to hold firm against passage
of the spending bill until the
governor's proposal for a
state withholding tax is de-
