Cherry Trees Should
Be Sprayed for Fly
The Cherry fruit fly has
emerged, and spraying of local
cherry trees is required In the
next four or five days to be
effective, according to Jack
son County Extension Agent
Don Berry.
Two tablespoons of meth
oxychlor should be added to
three gallons of water for the
spray, he said. Another two
tablespoons of Malathlon
should be added to three gal
lons of water to control aphids
at the same time, Berry said.
The fruit flv lays eggs in
side the cherries. The adults
have to be killed since the
worms Inside the cherries
cannot be killed, the county
agent said. Ladders should be
used with hand pumps to be
most effective or hose-at
tached sprayers can be used.
