Thunderstorms, Tornadoes Batter Midwest States By United Press International Thunderstorms rumbled up the Ohio River Valley today after a night of tornadoes. Hail battered parts of the Midwest and plains while rain soaked much of the na tion from the Rockies to the southland. Nearly IV2 inches of rain fell across northwestern Loui siana, central Alabama and Western Ohio in six hours during the night. At least two unconfirmed twisters tore across western Ohio, smashing homes and ripping up power lines. No injuries were reported. Much of rural Darke coun ty in Ohio was without elec tric power. Roofs Torn Off An apparent twister tore a one-mile swath through the countrywide about five miles west of Greenville, Ohio. Roofs were torn from three homes, two barns were flat tened and other buildings damaged. The roof was ripped from a farm home near Gettysburg, Ohio, and outbuildings were demolished. Hail 2Vi inches in diame ter pumeled an area five miles north of San Antonio, Tcx and 60 mile an hour winds slapped golf ball size hailstones at Stonewall, Tex. A bolt of lightning cracked from a thunderstorm over Moberly, Mo., and started a major fire raging out of con trol.
