OREGON Construction of New Lodge at Happy Camp Will Start Soon By HAZEL DAVIS Mail Tribune Correspondent Happy Camp-Construction of the first part of a new lodge along the Klamath river, one mile west of Happy Camp, la expected to get under way toon. The lodge, to be called the Diamond D Lodge. Inc., is scheduled to be built over a five-year period, financed through a federal Area Rede velopment Admin istration loan. But because of community Interest, the portion of the lodge which will house a bowling alley, has been with drawn from the ARA loan ap plication and will be built Im mediately. According to J. C. Mitchell, architect with Designs Un limited of San Jose, who Is designing the Swiss-Chalet decor lodge facilities, the building which will house the bowling lanes should be un der construction about June 1 and should be completed by early fall. According to Mitchell, soil samples at the site have been taken and survey work has been done by Orel Lewis, a private surveyor. The original bowling lane facility will house cishl lanes in a one-story, 8,620 square foot structure. Provi sions will be made to allow for future expansion to 12 or 16 lanes. The lanes, pin setting equipment, ball re turns and other equipment will be of the most modern equipment available, includ ing automatic pin setters. Located In the front por tion of the building will be a cocktail lounge, snack-bar, a viewer-lounge area, lobby with sulcs counter, restrooms and promenode. Full treatment will be given to accommodation of league bowling and special considera tion to having facilities such as snack bar to encourage young people. Plans for league bowling should be get ting under way soon, Mitchell said, in order for the leagues to start as soon as possible after the fall opening. Included In Plan - Included in the ARA loan application for the two-year plan are (1) hotel-lodge with an ultimate 60 motel-cabin units, a restaurant to accom modate approximately 50 per sons at one time with banquet facilities additional, and a cocktail lounge with room for dancing; VI) a group caoin with complete facilities for 24 persons in one party; (.1) a 25-3(1 unit trailer park with small general store, including sporting goods and off-sale i liquor; and (4) dock and boat facilities. Included in the five-year plan arc in addition to those already mentioned are (1) dude ranch with bunkhouse facilities and packing facili ties for camping trips into the primitive area and other similar activities; (2) golf course with 9 holes with suitable country club facili ties, tennis courts: (3) a com munity hall and chapel struc- ture; (4) small community shopping center; (5) twenty cottages with 1 to 3 bedrooms to be disbursed among arti ficial lakes (the lakes shall encompass approximately 26 acres); and (6) other incident al facilities such as a filling station site. Included in the plans for the lodge facilities are an Olympic type swimming pool, shuffleboard, and ping pong, for the recrea tion of the guests. Keith Harrison To Receive His Degree Portland - Commencement exercises for the 206 seniors at Lewis and Clark college, are scheduled June 2. The 96th graduating class includes Keith William Har rison, 1382 Kings highway, Mcdford, who will receive a bachelor of science degree in psychology. Harrison Is a member of Thcta Chi fraternity and Blue Key service honorary. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Harrison.
