Or, James Docrtcr, head of the art department, explained that such art objects were unique, and that many art lovers were now in the field of collecting representative samples, not only for the aesthetic values pertaining to them but as a form of spec ulation as well. Thirty-five per cent of the profits of the sale will be con tributed to art scholarships. Certificates Awarded To Area Bank Personnel "Every banker must have intelligence, Integrity, and courage and these can be gained by study and work," according to William Merrill, who addressed about 100 members of the Rogue Valley Chapter, American Institute of Banking, at their annual banquet recently in Ashland. Merrill, who is the execu tive councilman for this dis trict, is from the National Bank of Washington at Ta coma. Merrill awarded certifi cates to three members ot the chapter. A graduate certifi cate, equivalent to three years of college, consisting of 630 hours of classroom work, was awarded to Gilbert E. Stuart, president of the chapter; standard certificates were given to Mrs. C. H. Red mond, secretary of the chap ter, and to Mrs. Alice Hall gren, Medford branch, the First National Bank of Ore gon. Standard Certificates Standard certificates con sist of 420 hours of classroom work equivalent to two years ot college work. Merrill congratulated the chapter on finishing the first year with more than 75 stu dent enrolled in courses, and 140 members. He explained why education is needed to day to compete in a fast mov ing economy. He also encouraged women to enroll In courses because "two-thirds of employees in banks today are women." Merrill said he would like to see all bankers in southern Oregon take advantage of the education and leader ship training offered by the Amer ican Institute ot Banking. He explained there also Is a lead ership training conf e r e n c e each year. This year It will be held in Salem in July and he encouraged members to attend. New officers of the local chapter were installed.
