Wayne Clay chucked three hit, eight-strikeout, one-walk . ball in whitewashing the Breeze. His teammates backed him With an errorless per formance. ' And, a single by Darryl Summerfield and a double by Pat Pepper each contributed to the scoring which came two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings. The two hits were the only ones yielded by Medford twlrl er Bill Enyart, who walked three batters and hit one and struck out two. Medford was charged with five miscues and Crater took advantage of three of them along with two of the walks adn the hit bat her. ! Oamt Tonight at WC ' . This loss was the first one suffered by Tornado this sea son in league play and gave Medford a 10-1 standing in the circuit. Crater has completed regular, conference play with 10-8 and is still in the run ning for a deadlock for the crown. Medford won it three previous frays .with the Com ets. r . Crater entertains Corvallis 1 in a twilight-night non-league twinbill at -Memorial field, White City, this evening. Tonight fourth inning, Pat Pepper led oft with a base on balls and Darryl Summerfield drilled a single to left field. Medford catcher Mike Barnes, attempt ing to pick Pepper off first base, heaved the ball into the outfield. The ball momentarily was juggled by centerflelder Mike Neathamer. Pepper raced home and Summerfield got to third base. Then, Sum merfield scored on Howard Tomlinson's groundout. With two out in the fifth Mike Glines walked and Lou Alvarez was hit by a pitch. The runners advanced when anpther Barnes throw went into the outfield. Pepper rap ped a double to right field, driving in both runners. Medford's best opportunity was in the fourth inning when Miles opened with a school roof double and Dick Deffley drag-bunt singled and swiped second base. However, Clay struck out the next three Med ford batters in order. Miles walked and reached third base for Medford in the first inning. In the second Barnes singled but Neathamer hit into a double play. No Tornado runners got on base in four of the innings; i - . , j ' Put One Together . Report Claims Russian Victory New York - (Bra - A report by the Institute for the Study of the USSR calculated today that Russia should outscore the United States In the 1964 Olympics, 712 to SIS, despite U.S. improvement in gymnas tics, marksmanship and sail ing. The figures, based on world wide performances in Olym pic sports during the last two years, were contained- in a report written by Yury V. Marin. . Although the report claim ed victory for the Russians by an overwhelming point mar gin, it said that Russian' ex perts were concerned about U.S. Improvement in certain sports and that intensive prep arations are being made to en sure a - Soviet victory at Tokyo. Gene Lipscomb Funeral Today ' Detroit '-(UTO- A crowd of more than SOO was expected to attend the funeral today of lootoaii star Gene (Big Daddy) Lipscomb. Lipscomb, a native of De troit who went on to his great est fame with the Baltimore Colts before being traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers, died last Friday in Baltimore from an apparent overdose of nar cotics. Flowers sent by all of the National Football league's clubs were crowded around his casket at a local funeral home., Many of his former teammates and opponents were in town for the funeral. Lipscomb was one of the few players who were able to make the grade in the Nation al Football league without ever . having played college ball.
