VI i, 1 M J I." -' I REPEATS SCENE - Persona who believe that nature repeats her favorite scenes in stone will find many proofs of their contention at the Southern Oregon Gem and Mineral show at the Medford Armory Saturday and Sunday. An outstand ing example will be exhibited by Leland Mentzer of Med ford. The agate he has chosen to display in a special case, on the right above, repeats the view of the lone cypress, or Cypress Point on the 17-mile drive from Pacific Grove to Carmel, shown in picture on left. A San Francisco jeweler, to whom Mentzer recently showed the agate, gave the ex planation that these pictures are formed in rock because the sun reflects the scene into the rock. A long reflection, Mentzer notes, for the scene is in southern California and he found the agate in the Eagle Point area of Oregon. We suggest several sweet treats to go with the fragrant, flavorful coffee. Feeding the Family By ZOLA Food Good Sweet Treats With Coffee for Mother's Day Ahead of Mother's Day last year we talked of pampering Mother with breakfast in bed, a fresh copy of the newspaper, maybe a stack of new and dif ferent magazines and other contributions to a lazy morn ing. We were roundly scolded by a thoughtful letter-writing reader who asked us if we didn't realize that a good mother gave her family a good breakfast and then went to church with them on "her" day just as she did every other Sunday morning. So we're not taking any chances on that 'breakfasl-in-bed routine this year. Instead, we suggest that Mother's Day be celebrated on Saturday, Sunday (before or after church), Monday or any other day when loving members of the family plan a "kaffce klatsch because our experi ence indicates that Mother does like good conversation. And coffee with anything is the best known promoter of good conversation. In German, "kaffee klatsch" means a gossip session over a cup of coffee. In America, it means a warm and friendly welcome to a neighbor or a friend who stops by for a chat. On our west coast, it often is the motif for an important party with many friends and neighbors coming and going -and lots of good conversation. Whether a few friends or many, it is our neighborly cus tom to offer a sweet treat and that is our mission for today. In a recent poll of food editors, it was found that there is great interest in breads that are different and that show off the baker's culi nary skill. Economy doesn't seem to be a factor. Home bakers want a product that is attractive and tasty. So we suggest that you plan this and perhaps other home -baked specialties for the important kaffee klatsch - or just for the ever-loving family.
