Alberta John ston, hat been added to the staff of the Oregon State Uni versity CoopersMve Extension service. She is a graduate of the University et Nebraska and Kansas Stat university. Extension Specialist Announced Corvallis - Mrs. Alberta Johnston has been . named home management specialist in family finance by Oregon State University Cooperative Extension service. Mrs. John ston fills the vacancy left by the resignation of Mrs. Ooro they Sherrill Miller. OSU's Extension education program in family finance in cludes study of such topics as wise use of credit, designing family spending plans, wills and estates, insurance, savings and retirement programs. Families of all ages and in come levels are served through the extension family finance program. Mrs. John ston will give particular at tention to developing special programs in money manage ment with young Oregon f ami' lies, retired persons and youth In 4-H clubs. A native of Nebraska, Mrs. Johnston came to Oregon from Montana State college where she held a similar position. Before that she was a county agent and specialist in family economics 'in Wyoming. She received her bachelor degree from the University of Nebras ka, and a master degree in family economics frpm Kansas State university. . Lashers Make ; Extensive Tour Of United States Mr. and Mrs. Everett Lash er, 2517 Sandy terrace, ar rived home Tuesday evening after being away for over 12 weeks on a trip throughout the United States, when they visited relatives and friends. From here they drove to Los Angeles and San Diego, Calif., and then traveled through Mesa and Phoenix, Ariz., en route to Texas, and New Mexica where they tour ed the Carlsbad caverns. In New Orleans, Louisiani the couple attended the Mardi Gras. Going by way of Biloxi, Miss., and Mobile, Ala., they arrived in Florida where they spent some time visiting rel atives in various cities. They stopped in Pensacola, Orlan do, Winter Park, St. Peters burg, Largo, Ft. Myers, Hie liah and Key West. They also visited the Everglade Nation al park and the Thomas Edi son summer home. At Winter Park the couple attended a sidewalk art show. In Hieliah they were with a brother of Mr. Lasher. Traveling on, Mr. and Mrs. Lasher stopped in West Palm Beach, St. Augustine, and Jacksonville, before arriving in Savannah, Ga., and North Carolina. Historic Spots En route to Washington, D.C., they were visitors at the historic towns of Williams burg and Jamestown in Vir ginia. In the capital city the travelers visited many points of interest including the Pen tagon and While House. Leav ing there the Lashers then went to New York City and on to Fort Plain. N.Y., child hood home of Mr. Lasher, where he was reunited with a sister and brother, and school friends. In Ilion. N.Y., they were guests of another sister and at Syracuse, the couple called on a 90-year-old cousin of Mr. Lajher. From Buffalo, N.Y., they traveled to Pittsburgh, Pa to spend Easter Sunday with a nephew of Mrs. Lasher, and his family. Taking the turnpike they went to Michigan City, Ind. In Soarta. Wis., they visited with two brothers and two sisters of Mrs. Lasher, and at Mea. ford. Wis., they were with an- nthrr hrothor. On the return trip the Lash ers were guests In Milwaukee, Wl . anri In Polo. HI. t.eavin Iowa they traveled through Nebraska and Wyo ming to Salt Lake City, Utah, arriving home by way of the winnemucca to Uie Bee Several of the county home extension units which will meet during the week will Install officers for the coming year. Those which will have les sons on hard surface floor care are Medford Parent. Hillcrest, Howard. Reese Creek, Griffin Creek and Eagle Point units. Wills and estates will be the subject for Willow Springs unit. The lesson has not been announced for the Agate unit. Medford Parents Mrs. Glenn Stewart and Mrs. C. Young will present the lesson for Medford Par ents unit Tuesday, May 7 at 7:30 p.m.. In the home of Mrt. Lee Johnson, 3436 Hanley road, Central Point. Hostesses will be Mrs. J. C. Chapman and Mrs. Russell Fowler. Hillcrest . Hillcrest unit officers arc to be Installed Wednesday, May 10 at 10:30 a.m., in the home of Mrs. Warren Kelsoe. Route 2, Box 172, Phoenix- Hillcrest highway. Mrs. Archie West and Mrs. A. V. Jones will be project leaders. Those who attend should take salad and table service! . Howard Officers will be installed bv Howard unit during their meeting Thursday, May 8 at 10:30 a.m., in the home of Mrs. O. T. Davis, 121 Ashland avenue. Child care will be pro vided by Mrs. R. E. Griffin Creek Mrs. Andrew Schmidt and Mrs. Arthur Savage are to give the lesson for Griffin Creek unit Wednesday, May 8 at 10:30 a.m., in Griffin Creek Grange hall. Reports will be given on the Oregon State Home Ex tension council meeting held last week at Oregon State university campus. Mrs. Lewis Clark, Mrs, Joe W. Casad, Mrs. Ralph Marlatt. Mrs. R. P. Gates, Mrs. Noel Erskine, Mrs. Randall Leon and Mrs. Glen Allen attended from the unit. Mrs. George Reed and Mrs. Walter McPherson will be hostesses. A covered dish luncheon will be served at Festival Head To Be Speaker Angus L- Bowmer, founder and producing director of the Oregon Shakespearean festi val, will speak for the Shake speare Interest group sponsor ed by ire American Associa tion of University Women at the next meeting. Nelson will discuss the theology lesson for the Second Ward Relief so ciety of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, at its meeting Tuesday, May 7 The session will begin at 10 a.m. at the church, 648 South Ivy street. Dr. Roy McNeal, professor of geography, expressed his gratitude to the group for an oil painting of himself pre sented at the preceding year's banquet, which he could not attend. He introduced Dr. Vaughn Bornet, chairman of the social science division, who spoke of challenges In that field. He also announced new courses to be offered dur ing the coming academic year.
