The old-timer car was chauffeured by its owner, Frank Horton of Griffin Creek. Attena ants for their grandparent at the ceremonies were miss Ju dith and Miss Suzanne Shas- kv. Ushers were grandsons. Florlan Shasky Jr., and John Shasky. Two more grandsons James and Jerry Shasky, were altar boys. Soloist for the occasion was Donald Macpherson and Miss Ingrid Bergstrom was organ. Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. Henry Shasky and ut, and Mrs. Florian Shasky were hosts at a reception for their parents at the Knights of Co lumbus hall on Black Oak drive. A golden money tree was the gift of the children and the 200 guests to tne non ored couole. Two granddaughters,. Miss T.enore and Miss Carolyn Shasky, presided at the guest book and serving puncn was Miss Rosalita Patch. Others who helped with the recep tion were Mrs. Woodrow Smith, Mrs. Joseph W. Mc Duffie and Mrs. Jack Batzer. Mr. and Mrs. Shasky, who reside at 1306 Reddy avenue, have lived in Medford for nearly twelve years and until two years ago when he re tired, Mr. Shasky worked as a maintenance man at Sacred Heart hospital. Prior to their moving here the couple spent all their married life in Port land where he was a machin ist. They had one child who died in Infancy besides the two sons. Henry, who la a pharmacist and drug salesman in San Francisco, and Florlan, a Medford physician. Grandchildren Preeent Of their nine grandchildren, all were present for the anni versary observance except Henry's daughter who is Sis ter Mary Jullanne In the Col' lege of Mercy Novitiate at Burllngame, Calif. Golden Jubilees are nothing rare in the Shasky family. Mr. and Mrs. Michael Stauber, Mrs. Shasky' parents, ob served 54 anniversaries of their wedding. The 11th of their 12 children, Mrs. Shasky at her celebration wore the tame gold - piece necklace which her mother had worn on her golden wedding day. Born on the family farm at New Era, Mrs. Shasky was baptised in the game church where she was married on her 18 birthday. Mr. Shasky was the 14th of the 18 children of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Shasky, Purham, Minn. They lived to celebrate 60 years of wedded life. One brother, Joseph of Gilnian, Minn., and his wife have ob served their 65th anniversary Another brother, Frank Shasky Jr., and his wife of Seattle were in Medford for the mass and reception. The;' celebrated their golden wed ding last December. , Guests Kara Other out of town guests in eluded Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bue and Mr. and Mrs. Ted Torresdal of Portland; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Eggers, Grants Pass; and Dr. and Mrs. Jack Nearing, Riddle. Two other well-known iubi. larians were honored guests at the anniversary mass. Tney were Sister Mary Norbert and Sister Peter Mary of Sacred Heart hospital where they have been nurses for several decades. Both have been members of their religious order for more than 80 years. Among the many messages received by Mr. and Mrs. Shasky was a congratulatory letter from Archbishop Ed ward D. Howard of Portland. Remain Busy Although retired, the cou ple remain busy with favorite projects. Mrs. Shasky is a reg ular member of Providence ouild in addition to the time she spends in the interests of the church and her grandchil dren. Mr. Shasky is. recog nized as one of the never-tiring contributors to the works of the Knights of Columbus Rogue River council and the Father Francis W. Black Fourth Degree assembly. Only one thing marred her golden wedding day, accord ing to Mrs. Shasky. A few dayi prior to the anniversary she fell on a freshly waxed floor, cracked two ribe, badly bruised an arm and as a result couldn't "dance at her wedding." On Trip Prospect - Mrs. Sherman Poole and granddaughter, Lee Zawadzke, . are in Los All' geles. They will visit Charles Poole, stationed at El Toro Marina Corpt base, and also will be guests of Mrs. Poole's liter, Mrs. John Ellington, and her brother, Thomas Eby. They plan to be away about a week. Mr. and Mrs. Julius G. Shaiky rode from Sacrad Heart Catholic church to Ping's Cardans Sunday, April 28, In a 1922 Studebaker car following a mats which marked their golden wedding anniversary. The couple's sens had en deavored to find a horn-drawn surrey for the excursion, but none was available. The anniversary mass was cele brated In their honor by the Vary Rev. Carl Mai, and a family breakfast served at the Gardens. April 27 a re ception was given In their honor at the Knights of Co lumbus hall. Black Oak drive. Student Tapped At Washington Miss Marsha Watson, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard E. Watson, 3390 Ross lane, a freshman at the University of Washington, Seattle, was one of 30 girls tapped for the W Key, an underclass activity and scholastic honorary for Freshman girls who are out standing in service. Miss Watson, also was one of 20 girls to be invited to join the Huskey Honey group of 40 girls who are the of ficial University of Washing ton greeters. The student Is a member of Chi Omega. Visitor Ashland - Visiting in the new home of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Davis, 815 Taylor street, Is Mrs. Eva Glantz of Minne apolis, Minn., mother of Mrs. Davis. Reception Will Honor Senator Gaylord Nelson A reception for U.S. Sen ator Gaylord Nelson of Wis cousin, guest speaker for the 13th annual Roosevelt Me morial dinner to be held at Hedrlck Junior High school Saturday evening, May 11, will be held at the school cafeteria immediately follow ing the dinner. Attorney Theo dore Philips, general chair man, states that the dinner is set for 6:30 p.m. In charge of the reception, which will be open to all din ner guest;, will be Mrs. Frank Christian, president of the Eleanor Roosevelt league, and Mr. Gerald Scannel, president of the Jackson County Demo cratic Social club. They will be assisted by members of their organizations. Pouring at the reception will be Mrs. James A. Redden and Mrs. Gerald Scannell. As sisting In receiving will be Mrs. Thomas Rutter, Mrs. Theodore Philips, Mrs. Dee Newton and Mrs. Ira McDon ald. Flower arrangements are in charge of Mrs. Lewis Ulrich. In charge of the head table arrangements for the Roose velt Memorial dinner are Mrs. Dee Newton and Mrs. Daniel Leary, while head table serv ing will be headed by Mrs. Tex Phillips and Mrs. Lura McGuire. Frank Christian is chairman of the gift selection committee. Marriage Announced Miss Emily Anne Samson, Vancouver, B.C., Canada, be came the bride of Richard W. Courtright of Medford, in a ceremony held April 20 in Reno, Nev. The bride is a daughter of Mrs. S. S. Samson, Vancouver, and the late Mr. Samson. The bridegroom is a son of Mrs. C. C. Courtright, Corbett, Ore., and the late Mr. Courtright. Accompanying the couple to Reno were Mr. and Mrs. Ren Taylor, Mrs. Jeanne Lar son, and Thomas J. Owens. The bride is a graduate of the University of British Co lumbia and was employed as an airlines stewardess. The bridegroom . studied at both the University of Oregon and Willamette university. He is an attorney-at-law practicing in Jackson county.
