T ' ' ' - v i bl .H tt t When Mrs. Virgil Stlckley packed for her stay away from home while attending the 1983 annuali convention of the Ore gon Congress of Parents and Teachers, her two youngestchlldren, Roy 3, and Paula, 4, were interested spectators. Mrs. Stlckley, who is president-elect of Lincoln Parent Teacher association, has two older children, Teresa, 7, and Chester, IS. The convention In Eugene will close Thursday. Pythian Sisters To Hold Party ireKa - rytnian outers have planned a hobo party for May 8, with Miss Floy Johnston as chairman. Those attending are to dress as ho boes. - The party was announced at a dinner given by Knights of Pythias and Pylliian Sisters April 24 at the IOOF hall. Lodge meetings followed. May 22 Mrs. Peter Schluut cr will show pictures and give a travelogue. The visiting committee for May is the Mesdames Mabel French, Ruth Rider and Alvin Lewis. At this time the group will announce winner of the annual Merit Award of the Year which goes to a woman considered outstand ing by the selection commit tee. Women's groups of the area are invited to submit candi dates, and these applications are to be sent to Mrs. Wil liam South, 772-8910, no later than May 6. The luncheon will be held at North's Chuck Wagon, and reservations are to be made with Mrs. James Rouhier, 773-3844, ticket chairman. The Jayceettes are meeting tonight at the home of Mrs. Duane Cleaves, 1771 Easy street, at 8 p.m. A bowling party will follow. Mrs. Del bert Moore is co-hostess. Play Day Set For Wranglers Ashland - Ashland Wran glers will hold a play day Sunday, May S, at the Ash land arena. Trail events will begin at 10 a.m. and entries must be filed by 9:30 a.m. the committee states. Entries for the game events are to be filed no later than 12 noon and will begin at 1 p.m. Gold Hill Librarian Honored on Retirement Gold Hill T r t b u t e was paid Mrs. Jewel Kouth, retir ing librarian, by more than 60 friends who attended an open house and silver tea at Gold Hill branch Library during National Library week. Mrs. Ferd Jones, a Jackson county library trus tee, had charge of arrange ments for the open house held April 25 from 2 to 3 p.m. Mrs. Routh retired April 30 after 20 years as librarian here. She has served since May 1, 1932 in that position. Prior to that date she had been a substitute librarian. It was announced during the open house that Mrs. Frances Brown has been ap pointed librarian. She will take up her duties today. A gift in the form of a unique money tree was pre sented Mrs. Houth for the faithful way she had per formed her librarian duties throughout the years. The tree was made for the occa sion by Girl Scouts of Troop 55. Scouts also made gay book covers that contained small envelopes which were used by friends who wished to write a message and to con tribute to the silver tea gift fund. These books were hung on the tree. Eight large pictures which I hung in the former library room for several years and were moved to the present lo cation two years ago will re main as a gift to the Gold Hill Branch library, Mrs. Routh stated. These pictures were presencd to the library by her son, Bob Routh. He took the pictures, enlarged, framed and hung them. Three oil paintings are Crater Lake National park and TouVelle park sce.ies. Others are in black and white. Also included in the gift to the library are three smaller pictures of a white cat that was a steady visitor at the li brary until his death. Bob Routh had made a study of the cat as he browsed about the library on his many, many visits, and the result was three pictures that have been favorites of those visit ing the library for several years. Mrs. Routh said she has no immediate plans for the fu ture other than to rest, and help her son in his photog raphy shop. She is a member of Concord Spiritualist cha pel. Gold Hill and is on the board of directors. Mrs. Jones was assisted by Mrs. Ogden Kellogg, Mrs. Paul . Holderness, and Mrs. Brown, new librarian. Mem bers of Amethyst Rebekah lodge. Gold Hill Grange. Musson, 638 Haiel St., Central Point. Roseburg Man To Be Honored Roseburg-E. S. Hall, prin cipal of Rose school who will retire from the Roseburg school system in June, will be honored at a reception to be held Sunday, May 5, at the school. Hours will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Friends and former pupils of Mr. Hall are invited to at tend the reception which is being sponsored by the Rose Parent-Teacher association. Mr. Hall has been with the Roseburg schools for 37 years. and Tuesday and Friday from 7 to 8 p m. it was announcea that the library will not be open on Saturdays hereafter. Hedrick School To Give Musical Comedy Friday "Best Foot Forward," a two-act musical comedy, will be presented by Hedrick Jun ior High school's music de partment Friday, May 3, at 8 p.m. A small admission charge will be made. The comedy Is one current ly being revived on Broad way with Liza Minnelli, Judy Garland's daughter, playing the lead. It was at one time made into a movie, starring Lucille Ball. Some of the popular songs in "Best Foot Forword" are "Buckle Down Winsocki," "Everytime" and "Just a Lit tle Joint with a Juke Box." The story concerns the ef forts of a movie star to gain publicity by attending a Win socki prom as the date of one of the students. The movie queen, Gail Joy, is played by Terry Tibbutt and her date, Bud. by Max Guiley. The stu dent has confused the issue by previously inviting his girl friend, Helen, to the prom. Helen is played by Jonni Six. The dance turns into a riot, but all ends happily. Dr. Reeber, the school principal is played by Marc Bayliss: Bud's roommates are portrayed by Bob Rector ind Dick Thierolf and others in the cast are Craig Shepherd, Bob Dames and D w i g h t Brown; their girl friends are played by JoDell Moore, Jean Woods, Susan Tungate, and Carolyn Wimberly. John Rog ers is a press agent, Paul Brai nerd, a photographer a,nd Mike Reznick, a professor. The production is directed by Carroll Graber and Jerry McDougall with Gary Lovra as accompanist. Student direc. tor is Judy Arnold and Jack Hurt is stage manager. The production staff includes John McCormack, Doug Dai ley, Bruce Gordon and Bill Hedberg, lighting; Gary Hen. drlx, scenery design and painting; George Cooksey, set construction; Patricia Haugen, Christy Sleeter and Sandra Wilson, properties' Gary Brceden, Dale Bohanl non, Mike Jewett and David Boals, stage crew. AAUW Member Receives Office Ashland Dr. Betty Lou Dunlop, past president of Ashland branch. American Association of Unlver sity women, was elected vice prcs dent of the Oregon State Di vision of AAUW at the an nual convention held last week in Gearheart.
