Maybe the 31-year-old change - up specialist from Azusa, Calif., hasn't convinced himself of that yet, but he's starting to make a dent on the rest of the American league. Aguirre enjoyed his great est year in baseball last sea son when he turned in a 16-8 record for the Tigers and a 2.21 earned run average that stamped him the most ef fective pitcher in the circuit. So far he has been even better this year. His 5-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox Sunday was his third route-going triumph without a loss and his earned run average stands at a re markable 1.40. Aguirre, who struck out seven and gave up eight hits, 1 held the Red box scoreless un til the seventh when Bob Till man nicked him for a two-run homer. The Tigers had clinched the victory before then, however, on Norm Cash's three-run homer off Bill Monbouquette in the fourth. The win snapped De troit's three-game losing streak. The Cleveland Indians end ed Baltimore's four-game winning streak with a 2-0 nightcap victory after the Orioles won the opener, 7-0. The New York Yankees shad ed the Washington Senators, 7-6; the Los Angeles Angels downed the Kansas City A's, 6-2, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Minnesota Twins, 8-0, after losing the opener, 7-0. Steve Barber struck out 11 batters and held the Indians to four hits as he posted his third victory for the Orioles, who were stopped on four hits themselves by Dick Dono van in the nightcap. Jackie Brandt homered for Baltimore in the opener and Woodie Held for Cleveland in the nightcap. Traih Stars For Yanks Tom Tresh drove in three runs with a homer and two singles and Bobby Richardson also contributed three hits in the Yankees' triumph over of its matches. In baseball Prospect high is to play Crater junior varsity at Central Point, Rogue River is to vie at Eagle Point and Roscburg to come to Grants Pass. Track meets include Grants Pass high at Marshfield, Illi nois Valley at Phoenix, Phoenix freshmen at Crater and Hedrick ninth grade at Eagle Point. Roseburg comes to Mcdford high for a girls' tennis match. It was possible that the Medford-Ashland high boys' net match, rained out Friday, would be made up today. The Lakers, all but count ed out after losing three of four games to Boston in the National Basketball associa tion's playoff finals, launched an optimistic comeback Sun day night in a 126-119 victory over the Celtics. The Lakers did it on Bos ton's home court, and they did it when the aging Celtics were within one game of clinching their fifth successive pro basketball championship. Foyt of Houston, Tex., set a track record of 38 minutes, 34.48 seconds to capture the country's first 100-mile cham pionship auto race this year at the Trenton Speedway Sun day.
