Rogue River Group Discusses Translator MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE. MFXFOHD. OHEGOH bUMUAY. He also pointed out that present members should keep their pledges. The association has been formed to help obtain a trans lator so residents of Wards Creek, Fielder lane area. Highway 99 north to Fromier Trailer court, Foots Creek. Rogue River, Evans Creek area and parts of Old Slase rd. may receive a sharp pic ture from Channel 10. Med ford. The amount of money re-! quired to build the translator is approximately S2.000. So far about one-half of this amount has been collected. The deadline for starting the project is May 4, but if possible the association wants to have the amount collected by the last of April to have time to complete the neces sary book work. The company Indicated it would prefer that the dis trict, which would own the park lands as well as the pool, do the landscaping, but the company would level the land. The facility would be deed ing such a district. The dis trict's board of directors would decide the size of the district, formation of policies, and how to pay off the note, Laden said. He also told the group that the swimming pool would be for the use of the district peo ple, and it could revert back to the White City Realty com pany if not so used. Since it would take at least 90 days to form a district, Laden said the company was summer. Volunteering to serve on a committee to study the idea were Charles Coon, chair man; Floyd Norton, Jack Mas son, Mrs. Max Ross. Mrs. Joyce Day, and Dean Buck inger. Frank Reich asked the group present to consider the possibility of forming an in corporated city instead of a fourth district in the area. Reich is now chairman of the sanitation district, and told the group he felt they should incorporate as a city before their problems became too large with the increase of population. The group decided, how ever, to continue the investi gation of a district, but asked that more information be brought concerning the incor poration as a city. Ashland - "From Stones to Spheres" is the title of a spe cial course in renaissance phil osophy which will be taught for the Institute of Renais sance studies in conjunction with the Oregon Shakespear ean Festival productions this summer. Dr. Arthur Kreisman, direc tor of general studies and chairman of the Southern Or egon college humanities divi sion, will instruct the course. Class sessions will be con ducted July 29 through Aug. 3 from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Trinity hall of the Ashland Episcopal church. The course will concentrate on an examination of the con cept of order in life and taught as it was understood and applied in Renaissance England, affecting not only religion and politics, but the arts and personal ethics. Students will study specific Shakespearean plays in terms of the philosophical back ground developed throughout the course. Registration for Institute courses will begin July 13 un der the direction of Dr. Mar joric Baily. They may be tak en for college credit by con tacting the registrar at the college for details concerning tuition and fees. Other courses listed for the summer include such special ized areas as: "Shakespeare Drama of Manners," "History -Sinews of War," "Roots of Tudor Drama," "Renaissance Art -Portraiture," "Character Pattcrns-Thc Scholar," and several excursions' into Eliz abethan staging, acting, and music. Grants Pass A city-oper-1 received by the city council ated off-street parking lot with 81 metered stalls will be opened in downtown Grants Pass with ribbon-cutting cere monies scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday. Mayor Charles B. Gill, Jr., and locut businessman Phillip llcydenburk will cut the rib bon, symbolizing the co-operation between city and busi ness community w h i c h brought about establishment of the lot. Music for the ded ication will be provided by the Grants Pass High school pep band. Opening of the area will culminate months of contro versy over the need for ad ditional off-street parking fa cilities in the downtown area, a question which at one time threatened to scuttle the newly-adopted city zoning ordi nance. Acquisition of the lot was started after recommendations from a Citizens' Committee on Off-Street Parking, ap pointed to study and resolve i the issue. The new facility covers ! three-quarters of a block In the downtown core area be i twecn Fourth and Fifth, H ; and 1 sts. It was purchased by the city for $65,000. of which $16,000 was put up by a group ; of downtown businessmen. ! City crews have been paint ing and metering the 81 stalls in preparation for the sched uled opening. Regulations set up by the city council provide that met er hours will extend from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., the same as provided for on-street park ing. Parking will be five cents per hour with no maximum other than meter limitations. Meters will take nickels, dimes and quarters, giving one, two or five hours in parking time. Pre-School Clinic Set in Eagle Point Eagle Point A preschool clinic will be held at the Eagle Point Primary school April 24 from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3:30 p.m. The clinic is primarily for children not under regular health supervision by a fam ily physician, but who will need a physical examination before entering first grade next fall. Gas Tanker Rolls Over on Highway A crew spent most of the day Friday draining the tank of a gas tanker and trailer which slid into a ditch and rolled over Friday on the Green Springs highway, state police said.
