West, who was previously identified as Michael Jamison Weal, was arraigned in dis trict court this week on a charge of burglary not in a dwelling. He was bound over to the grand jury. West is specifically charged With the burglary of Ihe Phoe nix Hardware store Dec. 22 when numerous guns were stolen. West was arrested early Monday morning by Oregon state police for questioning regarding the attempted burg Jary when shots were ex changed between the burglar and tile store manager. This year, more than 800 Jackson county women are participating in the national effort to raise funds. The out lying community volunteers will be calling on their neigh bors through Friday of this week. Mrs. B. L. Wood, Medford residential chairman, an nounced that she was proud of the work done by every one involved. She added that the drive is $600 ahead of what was collected last year at this time. Speaking on behalf of the Jackson County Unit of the Society, Howard Pierce, Ash land general chairman said "A heartfelt thanks a each volunteer who braved" the April winter to get our litera ture and message into the homes. We appreciate also the courtesy and generosity of everyone who opened his door to our Crusaders."
