OREGON Group To Mend Recreation Event Charles Collins, executive secretary of the California Oregon Recreation Develop ment association, will report on the activities of the Oregon Outdoor Recreation Council when the Oregon Parks asso ciation meets in Eugene Sun day through Wednesday. Collins, as chairman of the council, will give his five min ute report during the Wednes day luncheon and show the need for developing an over all state policy for parks and recreation areas in Oregon. He also will speak on a uni form policy for county park boards during tne Monday session. Jackson county parks and recreation commission mem bers planning to attend are Laurance V. tspey, cnairman, Medford; Mrs. Marcel LePi niec, Applegate, Mrs. Hanley Heffernan, Medford, and Di rector Neil Ledward, Med ford. Topics will Include leasing land, cooperative relations, re cruitment and orientation of personnel, planning and de veloping camp facilities, group picnic facilities, devel opment of a summer program, arts and crafta workshop and the philosophy of fees and charges. Accident Reported In Central Point Central Point - A hit and run accident involving a pick up truck driven by Walter V. Doty, 62, of North Highlands, Calif., and a car driven by Connie Baker, 41, of 3788 Hillsinger rd., Medford, wai reported here Tuesday. The collision occurred at Fourth and Pine sts. about 3 p.m. Baker was arrested a short time later on Highway 89 near Phoenix by state police, He was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating liq uor and was lodged In the county Jail. Ed Zander, Central Point police chief, said that In ad dition a citation la being pre pared against Baker for fail ure to leave information at the scene of an accident, Silverton School Superintendent Quits Silverton - (WD - Dr. Milt Baum, superintendent of the Silverton School District, an nounced Wednesday he would resign July 1 to take a posi tion as head of the Hood Riv er County School District. Grange News Phoenix Grange The officers opened the last meeting with the new seating drill. Master Lloyd Whiteside presided. The drill captain It Jesae Sanders with Mrs. Olive Floyd and Harry DeJarnette as co-captalns. Mrs. Ethel Hall and Doris Brown were elected to be come members through de mits. They were former members of the Butte Falls Grange. Reporting on agriculture, Mcrvin Hixson stated that the Carnation Milk company buys milk here. It Is then shipped to Portland, where it Is proc essed, put in cartons and re turned to this area. The milk has to be kept at a proper temperature during this time. Olin Poe mentioned the nu merous countries with wheat subsidies and some with other grains. Piped music has been found to be beneficial on dairies; now experiments with music on various crops are also showing good results accord ing to an article read by Mrs. L. R. Thomas. Farming may be In for a new trend. Melvln Lattle reported on the legislature and lax situa tions. He encouraged mem bers to attend more of the Pomona legislative meetings. The public Is Invited to at tend a special meeting at the Grange hall, April 30, at 8:30 p.m. Members of the Phoenix school board will be there to explain and discuss the school budget to be voted on In May. The by-laws were read by Secretary Mrs. Robert Mead ows and were favorably ap proved. Phoenix Grange will open their meetings at 8:30 p m. during the period of daylight saving time. Mrs. Sol Cox was elected to the office of Flora follow ing the resignation of Mrs Charles Hockersniith A visitor. C. E. Martin, of Chiloquin. told of the accom plishments of their newly formed Grange. The literary program con sisted of practice on the off i-: cers pick-up drill and the pen-! ny march. The program at the i next meeting will be by the agriculture committee. The next visitation meeting will be at Roxy Ann Grange, i The serving committee for the Phoenix meeting April 23 will be Mrs. Oscar Gysin and Marian Rlegel.
