Portland Woman
Declared Guilty
Portland - OIPB - Mrs. Star
Elaine Wallace, 32, Portland,
has been found guilty of man
slaughter by a Circuit Court
jury. The vote was 10 to 2.
Circuit Judge Richard!
Burke earlier in the day re- i
vcalcd that the two jurors
were threatened over the tele-1
phone that they would be ''cut
up" if they did not vote for
acquittal. He said the calls
were made late Sunday night.
The jury deliberated five
hours. Mrs. Wallace had been
charged with second degree
murder for the fatal stabbing
of her husband. Jack, at their
houseboat last year.
Burke scheduled sentencing
for Thursday.
Shell To Resume
Coastal Drilling
Portland -fflPB- Shell Oil Co.
plans to resume test drilling
off the Oregon coast May 1,
according to vice president
S. F. Bowlby.
Bowlby said Shell plans to
step up its hunt for offshore
oil deposits despite the fact
that many companies have
lost hope in Oregon after 180
dry holes.
Technological break
through and the failure of
western oilfields to meet dc- .
mands have spurred the
search, he said.
He said layers of volcanic
matter which covered the sed- '
iments in which oil normally
appears may decrease further 1
out to sea. His company plans
to explore the continental
shelf which extends from 20
to 150 miles off the Oregon
coast.
Redwood Chosen For
Warmth and Color
Natural warmth and V
brant color have helped make I
redwood one of America s la- j
voritc building and home fix
up materials.
It boasts a versatility for I
both indoor and outdoor ap
plications. Outdoors, redwood is the!
popular choice for siding, pa
Uo, shelters, fencing, and
decking.
Redwood is used for hand-1
some accent walls, enhancing
the attractiveness of other
walls and furnishings.
Redwood panels and cabi
net! help impart a rich, invit
ing look to kitchens and
breakfast nooks.
TRANSPLANTING
The best time to transplant -chrysanthemums
is the early
Spring at which time they I
should be divided, the old
woody center plant discarded
and only the young outside j
shoots planted.
