It is served with a peanut butter sauce and rice. Recipe below. Republik Indonesia covers an area of nearly 576,000 square miles. Its population is estimated at more than 92 million. Its religion is predom inantly Moslem with perhaps JVi million Christians and lesser numbers of Brahmins and Buddhists. Indonesia is rich in a variety of crops. Rice is the staple food and chief crop with major planta tion crops also oi rubber, tea, coffee, palm, kernels and sug ar. It grows large numbers of cattle, sheep, hogs, horses and buffalo. Gado-Gado is made like this for six servings. Cut one-half pound cabbage and one-half pound string beans in nice eating sie. Par boil one pound beanz sprouts (we buy these canned), reserv ing cooking water. Slice one cucumber and one bunch rad ishes. Prepare the peanut butter sauce or dressing in a bowl by crushing and mixing these ingredients and adding the warm vegetable water. One teaspoon salt, two teaspoons brown sugar, one teaspoon lemon juice, one teaspoon soy sauce, one onion, sliced and fried, one or two cloves gar lic, chopped fine or sliced and fried, few hot peppers, one-fourth to one-half pound finely ground peanut butter: add warm water from boiled vegetables. Arrange cooled vegetables in layers. Garnish with slices of two hard - cooked eggs and a small package of potato chips (surprised?). Serve veg etables with sauce and rice. Ham Glaaes If ham is gracing your hol iday table, you might try one of these popular glazes: One cup brown sugar and two ta blespoons flour . . . one cup honey . . . one cup brown sug ar and one tablespoon dry mustard . . . one-half cup or ange, peach or apricot marma lade . . . one cup cranberry sauce or currant jelly. Spread glaze evenly over fat - scored surface of ham. Easter Egg Memo Covers Cescarones Easter egg dyeing and dec orating is a memorable thing to youngsters. Today's gaily packaged dyes and decora tions offer easy - to - follow directions. A statement that color is harmless may be found on all packages con taining Easter egg dyes. We remind mothers that whlt shelled eggs are essential to dyeing clear, bright colors. Cascarones. C a sc a rones, pronounced kaska-ron-ys, are the empty eggshells that are so much fun to make and break. They're so fragile that it is best to decorate them with decals or paste-ons rath er than risking a dye bath. Whai To Do With All Thott Hard-Cooked Eggs Soon after the youngsters have finished their Easter egg hunting and exclaiming, moth ers will be hunting for ways to use up all those hard-cooked eggs. Consider them first as dinner table decoration artfully arranged with flow ers and please the chil dren. Here are some further suggestions: Deviled eggs with any of a host of variations for serving as salad or for casseroling in a savory sauce . . . creamed eggs on toast with or with out chunks of ham or tuna . . . egg salad sandwiches . . . sliced or grated in salads or as garnish for hot vegetables. Easier Lamb, Ham Data Back to Pagan Spring Ham and lamb for Easter feasting date back to the pa gan celebration of feastinc to celebrate the advent of spring. fresh meat supplies in those days were low at this time of year and select pork cuts were cured, smoked and stor ed throughout the winter, to await the season of feasting. Roast lamb springtime feasting dates back to early days of Greece and Asia mi nor when lamb, first animal born in the spring, became the symbol of new life and purity. You may think of ham and lamb as typical Easter fare, but the day is observed in different ways In different countries. Estonians observe the day with roast veal, roast potatoes and sauerkraut to which sausage and dill pic kles are added. In Poland, Swlecone or Easter meat Is prepared on Good Friday. Ham and legs of veal and lamb are entwined by links of sausage for sue culent display and eating. Center of the table features the likeness of a lamb mold ed from butter or cake. In I tally, festivities center around Agnello, roast baby lamb accompanied by arti chokes. In Russia and Yugo slavia, you're likely to be served whole roast pig. In Ireland and Finland, the centerpiece is likely to be roast ham. Roast lamb and cold ham in abundance weigh down the tables in Bulgaria and to the Greeks "Easter without lamb is a thing that cannot be." Many Americans favor turkey in modern times. Easier Eggs Whatever the dinner plan, eggs will be served at break fast; poached, fried, scram bled, simmered in the shell or in other ways. For this, you'll want top quality Grade AA eggs. Hot breads are espe cially favored with Easter eggs; the last hot cross buns of the season andor other coffee cakes. Product Plentif uls There's abundance of arti chokes, asparagus, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, several varities of lettuce, onions, po tatoes, zucchini and no shop ping list would be complete without crisp celery, green on ions and radishes for the rel ish tray. Fruit displays fea ture bananas, grapefruit, or anges, lemons, rhubarb, pine apples, papayas and avocados.
