Harold Barrett, of the speech and theater arts department, has announced that the forensics group at the college is prepared to offer programs of varying length and type as entertainment for valley organizations. Prize-winning orations, oral reading!, debates, symposium and panel discussions, and hu morous speeches by men and women students may be ob tained by contacting Dr. Bar rett at the college. It was explained that these appearances are of value as program resources for the or ganizations and of definite ed ucational value to the partici pating students. Organizations request i n g this entertainment are asked to provide transportation for the students when it is not available on campus, Dr. Bar relt said. Dr. Sampson Article In Winter Issue Ashland - Appearing in the winter issue of t h e Oregon Higher Education Association Quarterly Is the second part of an article, "Charting a Professional Program," writ ten by Dr. Bill A. Sampson, chairman of the Southern Ore gon college education division, and president of the OHEA. According to Dr. Sampson, there arc a number of areas of development within the teach ing profession which require immediate and unceasing at tention. Among them, he list ed: Revocation of C e r 1 1 f I- catcs," saying that some pro cedure for legally removing the right to teach from a per son while in service should be a part of the profession's ac tivities; "Professional Secur ity and Tenure," in which he calls for those in the teaching profession to seek statewide tenure for all professional ed ucators with built in protec tions for the public against poor performers; "In-service Professional Growth," consid ered imperative at profession al association, country office, slate department, and locai levels; and "Professional Au tonomy," involving the gain ing of the public's complete confidence in the profession's ability to fully assume its re sposibility for the quality of education in' the U. The Medford service will be held from noon to 3 p.m. at First Methodist church on "The Seven Attitudes of Holy Week." The committee in j charge includes the Rev. Rob ert Tull, the Rev. Harvey j Coovcrt, and Jack Willcuts. Services at 2 p.m. at First Christian church will be for Medford High school students. Hedrick students may attend services at Eastwood Baptist j and McLoughlin at First Church of the Nazarene at 1:30 p.m. Students wisning 10 attend the services must have written permission from their parents, otherwise they will not be excused from school. Ashland Service The Ashland service will be at 7:30 p.m. at First Presby terian church. The Rev. E. E. Crawford, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, will speak. Other Good Friday services scheduled in the valley include: The evening service at Apos tolic Faith church will open at 8 p.m. with the 22-voice male chorus singing "Were You There?" and "What Did He Do?" The Rev. Loycc C. Carver, pastor, will speak. The 7:30 p.m. service at Ascension Lutheran, 2617 Barnctt rd., will begin with holy communion. Both the junior and senior choirs will sing as well as two soloists. Sacred Heart Catholic church will hold services from 2 to 3 p.m. for students of the public schools. The mass of the pre-sanctified will be held at 7:30 p.m. Holy communion will be served. "The Seven Last Words of Jesus Christ on the Cross" will be observed Friday at St. Mark's Episcopal church from noon to 3 p.m. The Rev. George R. V. Bolster, rector, will conduct the vigil assist ed by the Rev. David Browne, the Rev, Eric Robathan and the Rev. Philip Getchcll. Mu sical interludes every 25 min utes will make it possible for worshipers to come and go. At 7:30 p.m. the Solemn Evensong will be held, fol lowed by the presentation of "The Crucifixion," sung by St. Mark's senior choir. Inei dental solos will be sung by seven persons. The Lenten series of medi tations at St. Peter's Lutheran church, 1020 East Main St., will conclude at 7.30 p.m. Fri day. The Rev. John Simon will conduct the service. Methodist Church Services St. Luke's Methodist church will host First Methodist church at a service at 7:30 p.m. The Rev. Charles Mc Donald, pastor, will preside assisted by Dr. George G. The service will start at 1 p.m. An 8 p.m. Good Friday service is scheduled at Luth eran church, K n a p p St., Yreka, at 8 p.m. Friday. Good Friday service will be from noon to 3 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal church, Lane and Fourth sis., Yreka, according to the Rev. Robert Lcnhardt. Four persons appeared in Jackson county district court this morning for arraignment or preliminary hearing and a fifth had a preliminary hcar ine late Wednesday and the charge was dismissed. Carl L. Hurst, 28. of Port land, had a charge of obtain : ing property by false pre ' tenses dismissed Wednesday I afternoon after insufficient I evidence was presented dur i ing a preliminary hearing, ac I cording to district court rec ! ords. Arraigned today on a charge of uttering and pub lishing a false check was James Kenton Young, 22. of 149 Seventh St., Ashland. He requested a lawyer and bail was set at $1,500. He is charged with writing a S30 check to an Ashland grocery store. A trial dale was set for Dewey Wardrip, 64, of route 1, box 470, Gold Hill, on a charge 'of making a talse state ment in writing to procure benefit. He pleaded innocent to the charge and trial was set for May 9 at 10 a.m. He is charged with writing a SI 17.38 check. A trial was scheduled May 14 lor Donald Allan Edwards, 32. of route 2. box 66H, Cen tral Point, on a charge of as sault and battery.
