Everest Expedition Ahead of Schedule Katmandu, Nepal - it'PI) -The American Everest expe dition has established camp four at 24.300 feet, more than a week ahead of schedule. The expedition has three ; more camps to go before it begins consecutive assaults on the 29,028 foot Everest and the sister peaks Lholse and Nuptse. The group's timetable did not call for establishment of camp three until April 16. Each camp is a step closer to the assault point on Everest's southeast ridge. Camp seven will be at 27.900 feet. Before starting the climb to the new camp, the group held a party at the 23.200 foot level to celebrate the birth of a daughter to climber Luther Jerstad, 20, Eugene, Ore. Jer stad, a University of Oregon instructor, celebrated t h e event with the American climbers and their Nepalese I snerpas (high altitude port ers). Minor Blaze Routs Portland Hotel Guests Portland -lUPiV About 20 persons were routed from the Barr hotel Sunday by a fire which caused only S150 dam age. A car driven by assistant fire chief Kenneth Post col lided with another vehicle on its way to the blaze. The chief's car suffered $200 dam age. The fire originated in rags which had been stuffed into a skylight. And most of us don't including our children, whose participation in healthful activi ties has dwindled until almost one-third of them fail simple physical achievement tests. If we are to improve our chil dren's physical abilities, they must become more active. Our schools can do much to help them keep fit. It can be started with a program that costs little, that takes a minimum of 15 min utes of vigorous activity each school day. But parents must urge and sup port such programs. Parents must make known their concern ior youth fitness where it counts with local school officials.
