I think half of them must be in Rome at the moment. All over - in shops, at Doney's, on the streets, in buses, at the Vatican, there are American voices, and cameras clicking. The American Express travel survey has made pre dictions. Here are a few of them, with significant trends. Peak months are June, July and August. Twenty-five per cent more travelers are expected than last year. Greater economy Is indi cated in requests for hotels, airlines and ships. The "rent a car" business continues to grow. About 300,000 Americans will tour Europe in automobiles this summer. The traveler repeating a visit is increasing. Over a third of the European tourists will have been here before. Travel agents are catering to this class. They are more so phisticated, more selec t i v e and seek new places to see. They are more particular about hotels. Student travel has doubled since 1957; there has been 100,000 requests for pass ports. A sharp raise In business travel is shown, especially in the Common Market coun tries. London will have the most Americans - 500,000 of them. Rome expects a 10 per cent Increase - 396,000. Madrid expects 321,000, a 7 per cent Increase. For first-time visitors, the "crand tour circuit" is still the first choice. Prices ranged from $000 to $2,500. In 1962. Americans spent $623,000,000, exclusive of trans-Atlantic transportation, in Europe. Boosting travel this year are large groups of post-convention side trips - Baptist World Youth conference in Beirut; Junior Chamber of Coommerce, Tel Avia; Boy Scout convention in Athens; Seton Pilgrimage in Dublin (led by Cardinal Spellman). One group from Portland Is In Europe now. One hundred and fifty Portland skiers chartered a plane, skied and took side trips to Rome and other Italian, Austrian and Swiss cities. Many of them came to Rome to attend the beautification services at St. Session Slated By Alpha Chis Roaue Valley Alpha Chi Omega Alumnae club will meet Monday, April H, at a p.m., at the home of Mrs. Alan S. Donohut (Howard photo) Peters for Elizabeth Ann Se ton. More than 30 new de luxe and first class hotels this year point out the fact that Europe needs more accommodations. Hilton is opening hotels in Athens. Rome, London and Rotterdam. Besides the Americans, this is the heaviest travel for Europeans in history. THE SHAPES TO BE IN THIS EASTER. . .
