Shot put, high jump and broad jump will be scored as relays on the totals of three entrants from each school. Individual events are the high hurdles, the discus, the javelin and the pole vault. While "team" gets most of the emphasis in the Rogue relays, there are a number of individual performers that fans will be watching. Medford has big Jim Hill and Mike Diebelc among the sprinters, Hill and Jim Cain among broad jumpers. A crew of distance men, Steve Toews, Frank Toews, Dennis Brumback and Jim Snod grass, will team in the two mile. Steve was 1962 district half - mile champion and Brumback is a top milcr Other Tornadoes include Roy Shaw, hurdler; Scott Hamp son, sprinter and quarter miler, and De Wayne Turpin pole vaulter. quarter-miler Huff Contender Ashland will have title con-' tender in Tom Huff, javelin I rshfield 1958 lHarriv Snlip..nm Hich hurdles Ashland. 1961 (Bob Vorisi 15.0. The Bruins have Jim Lamb for hurdle and high jump competition. Peformers for Grants Pass include 1962 district winners in Marty Bauer, shot putter; Cliff Lyons, miler, and Gary Van Koten, pole vaulter. Rich Ireland, Dennis O'Leary and Bob Shepard, three-fourths of last years district champ re lay team, are back. O'Leary was second in the district low hurdles and broad jump last season and also runs the highs. Ireland was second in the 1962 district dashes. O'Leary, Shepard, a high jumper, and Bauer, all late starters because of state tournament basketball, figure to be tougher this week than they were in the Ore-Cal re lays. Van Koten is a threat to the relay pole vault rec ord. Coach Russ Werner re ported a number of his Cave men, particularly some of the late reportces from basket ball, "stove up." He does not plan to run O'Leary this week in the 880 relay. Grants Pass appears heavily laden with talent, however, and the district champions look strong again this season. Mills Bulwark! Bill Mills will bulwark Klamath Falls in the weight events. Don Graham will bid in the high hurdle and Don Piper is a quarter and half mile stalwart. Record breaking is the rule rather than the excep tion in the Rogues. Wholesale record smashing, while not impossible, is not, however, anticipated. The two-mile and high jump standards fell last year. Oldest marks in the books are in the 440 and mile relays. They have stood since 1956. Medford "owns" eight of the records. Grants P three and Ashland one. The other is held by Marshficld which has not contested in the meet for a number of years. ROGUE RELAY RECORDS: 440 Medford. 1956 (Hawkins, Gould. Rilev.
