Junior TREASURE Chest No...Belief in God EDITED BY RUTH DIXON Is NOT Enough!" Marry-Qo-Round Mystery By Hans Kreis Many people are risking their eternal salvation on a "religion" of their own . . . which is actually no religion at all. "Oh, I believe in God," they say, "but I don't go to church. I'm just not the religious type." Almost everybody, of course, believes that there is a God. Com mon sense tells us that this is so. But if we actually believe there is a God, should not this same com mon sense tell us we must do something about it? And how can we give expression to our belief in God if not through religion? Religion is simply the conse quence of our realization of Who God is. It is our striving to be honest and consistent with this knowledge to learn and fulfill our duties to our Creator. Catholics believe that God cre ated us for a definite purpose... that He gave us the intelligence to . recognize what that purpose is and the means to fulfill it. It is through our religion that we give evidence of our desire to honor ' and serve God. It is through re ligion that we approach God in faith, repentance, love and grati tude. If you are living in the belief that you don't need religion.. .that all you have to do is to believe in God and live a moral life... we urge you to ask yourself these questions NOW: "Why am I living? Why did God create Me?" The most elementary common sense answer is that you are living because God created you... and that God has a purpose in doing so. Catholics believe it is our duty to find out what God's plan is for our lives and do our best to live it. If you have been living without any deep religious convictions . . . it will pay you to read a specially prepared pamphlet which we will send you without cost or obliga tion... and nobody will call on you. It discusses such questions as: Can the truth of Christianity be proved? Is it honest to ignore re ligion? Is science, ethics or educa tion a substitute for the Church? Also other topics that should con cern you deeply. For free copy write today ... ask for Pamphlet No. FM-18. Who doesn't thrill to a tug on the line from a kite merrily balanced high up in the air? But did you know that your kite can do more than fly? It can send mes sages, too, and this makes for some extra fun. Here's how to send a message by kite, mail. Punch a neat hole in a strong piece of paper and cut a slit from the edge of the paper to the hole. Write your name and address on it with a message asking any one who finds it to send it back to you, telling where it landed. When your kite is well up in the air, slip the message onto the line. The wind should carry it up bit by bit until it reaches the kite. Soon it will be blown off and carried away. If you send several messages, there is a good chance that at least one will be re turned, and you will learn how far your message traveled. Stab the Apple By Ragna Eskil (For younger girls and boys) Give each player an apple or an orange and a small pile of colored toothpicks, then see who can stick in the most toothpicks in 10 minutes. 10 Family Weekly, March 24, J961 From Outer Space! By Betty Kahn Outdoors this spring you can look like a man from outer space. Here is how you do it. Put a dab of zinc ointment on the end of your nose. (It keeps your nose from getting sunburned, too!) Find two small leaves about two inches long. They should be oval-shaped. Wet the underside and stick on your eyelids. They will stay in place if you are careful. A paper-bag cap trimmed with leaves would be funny, too. Tongue Twister Fly kite, fly kite, fly kite. Drop-a-Letter: What Am I? By Bertha R.
