OBITUARIES WILLIAM MAUST Ashland Funeral services for William Maust, 67, who died Sunday at his home. 1168 Tolman rd., will be held Wednesday, March 20, at 1:30 pjn. in the Litwiller chapel with members of the Ashland Elks lodge officiating. Crema tion will follow. Mr. Maust. a native of Strubble, Iowa, moved to Ash lnnH in 1Q4R frnm Klamath Falls. Previous to his retire ment, he operated a garage and logging trucks out of Bly for 15 years and a rancn ior two years at Lakeview. He is survived by his wife, Fay, in Ashland; two broth ers, Clifford Maust, Ashland; Sam Maust, Delano, Calif, and two sisters, Mrs. Lulu Wolfe, Redding, Calif., and Mrs. Ruth T.nnu Fresno. Calif. Mr. Maust was a veteran of World War I and a memoer of BPOE 944, Ashland. The body will lie in state from 7 to 9 o'clock tonight at the Litwiller chapel. GRACE L. SPARGO Mrs. Grace L. Spargo, Un ion Creek Lodge, Union Creek, died Sunday at home. Funeral arrangement are en trusted to Siskiyou Funeral Service directors of Chapel in the Trees Mortuary. ERNEST C. HAMILTON Funeral services for Ernest C. Hamilton, 85, of route 2, box 264, Central Point, who died Sunday, will be held in the Conger Morris downtown chapel at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Central Point Lodge 135 AF and AM and the Rev. D. S. Millard will officiate. Committarwill be in the Cen tral Point cemetery. Mr. Hamilton was born June 13, 1877, in Nishne Botna, Mo. In Millcreek, Mo., Dec. 16, 1900, he was mar ried to Celetta Belle Glaskin who preceded him in death in June, 1950. In 1910, Mr. Hamilton mov ed to the valley for 15 years was the foreman for the Rogue River Valley Canal. In 1925, he became supervsior of the Table Rock Irrigation company. In 1957 he retired. He was a Past Master of the Central Point Masonic lodge and a Past Patron of the Eastern Star and a mem ber of the Royal Arch Masons at Jacksonville. Surviving are five children, Mrs. Erma Cooper, Dunsmuir, Calif.; Lester G. Hamilton, Weippe, Idaho; Mrs. Evelyn Skyrman, Central Point; Al vin G. Hamilton, Medford; and Mrs. Lilly Pinkham, Central Point. One son, Or ville Hamilton, preceded him in death in September, 1962. Also surviving are 12 grand children and 5 great grand children. MARY JANE COFFMAN Funeral services for Mary Jane Coffman, 78, of 889 Posse lane, who died Sunday, will be held in the Conger Morris downtown chapel at 1 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. " Mrs. Coffman was born Jan. 20, 1885, in Albertville, Ala., and had made her home in this community since 1938. On June 25, 1900, she was married to James Louis Coff man, who preceded her in death in 1937. Surviving are seven chil dren, Carl H. Coffman, Phoe nix, Ore.; Walter B. Coffman, Madera, Calif.; Elmer C. Coff man, Medford; Mrs. Gladys Zulauf, Phoenix.; John Travis Coffman, Medford; Mrs. Lu cille Willoughby, Medford; Mrs. Etta Parham, Strath more, Calif.; and 25 grand children and 13 great grand children. A daughter, Ida Belle Coff man, and a son, Claude W. Coffman, preceded her in death. Casket bearers will include John Nealon, Ray Dorn, Ev erett Brown, Manley Jacob son, Fred Smith, and Bert Pierce. JOHN BERT THOMPSON Funeral services for John Bert Thompson, 84, of 2385 Taylor rd., Central Point, who died Sunday, will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Conger-Morris downtown chapel. The Rev. Harvey Coovert of the Zlon Lutheran church will officiate. Committal will be in Memory Gardens Memorial park. Mr. Thompson was born Aug. 14, 1878, in Georgeville, Penn. In his early childhood with his family he moved to Kansas where in 1905 he was graduated from Kansas State college. He accepted a position as agronomist with the United States department of agricul ture and served at experiment stations in the Philippines, Guam, Hawaii, Ganes v il I e, Florida, St. Croix, Virgin Islands, and in Jeanerette, La. He retired in 1932 and moved to Central Point where he farmed for many years. On Sept. 14, 1917, in Fowl er, Calif., he was married to Georgia Frances Cobb who preceded him in death in De cember, 1924. In June, 1927, at Christianstead, St. Croix, Virgin Islands, he was mar ried to Pauline J. Paulsen, who preceded him in death in July, 1958. Surviving are three chil dren, Albert C. Thompson, Central Point, John Gray Thompson, Pendleton, and Mrs. Clinton Charley, Eagle Point; one brother, James Thompson, Upland, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Fisher, Glen- dale, uaiit.; Mrs. Anna Wer ner, San Francisco, Calif.; and seven grandchildren among whom are Mike Charley, Eagle Point, and Kathy Thompson, Julie Thompson and Becky Thompson all of Central Point. Two brothers preceded him in death. Casket bearers will be Ira Jones, R. L. Isaacs Sr., Loyd Huston, Jack Riley, Arnold Bohnert and Oliver Oben- chain. ARNOLD F KORNSTAD Funeral services for Arnold F. Kornstad, 63, of 1624 Thomas rd., who died Sunday, will be held at 1 p.m. Wed nesday at Perl Funeral 1 ome. The Rev. Harold M. Sanner, pastor of the N a z r. r e n e church, will officiate. Inter ment will be in Memory Gar dens Memorial park. Mr. Kornstad was born July 166, 1899, in Lake Mills, Wis. He moved to Medford from Janesville. Wis., 36 years aao, and has been employed by the Medford Corporation since that time. On July 29, 1926. in Janes ville. he was married to Ethel Scheel, who survives. Other survivors include two sons, Milton Kornstad. Yreka, Calif., and Roger Kornstad, Medford. Honorary pallbearers will be Loyd Arnold, Clarence Starkey, J. O. Fahlen. Roy House, J. A. Larsen and Cur tis Sorensen. Active bearers will be Fred Hall, L. G. Thursday in Conger - Morris downtown chapel. JOHN W. SMITH John W. Smith, 83, former ly of Eagle Point, died this morning at the county farm home. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Conger- Morris Funeral directors. MRS. INGA FASEL Mrs. Inga Thompson Fasel, 86. died Mondy, March 11, at her home in Atwater, Calif., following a brief illness. Pri vate funeral services were held Wednesday in the Nor ton mortuary. Mrs. Fasel was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Fasel, last year. Survivors include a son, Willis T. Fasel, of Medford; one daughter, Florence E. Pitts, Atwater; a brother, Carl Thompson, North Dakota; one sister, Marne Moen, Norway; nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Mrs. Fasel had lived in Ore gon before moving to Tur lock, Calif., in 1945. She con tinued to Atwater about a year ago. Kelly, 906 West Fourth St., spent last week end in Portland, where Judge Kelly attended a meet ing of the scholarship intern ship committee, which screens and chooses candidates for po sitions in the Washington staff of Sen. Maurine Neuberger. The Kellys also visited their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Saltveit while in Portland. Car Fires-Medford firemen were called to extinguish two different car fires Monday. At 2:19 p.m. fire was reported in a car belonging to C. C. Hal vors at Fourth and Fir sts. It burned an eight-inch hole in the front seat of the car, fire men said. Then at 11:47 p.m. firemen were called to a car belonging to Eleanor Hooker, parked at Sacred Heart hos pital. The carburetor had backfired, firemen said. There was apparently no damage. Trash Fire-Fire was report ed in a trash can at Bateman's cafe, 2392 North Pacific high way, at 1:40 o'clock this morn ing. Firemen removed the can. There was no damage. Library Report Is Presented at Event The monthly report of the Public Library of Medford and Jackson County, present ed to the board of trustees at the March meeting showed an increase for February in both the total system and the branch libraries. Branch libraries were up 21 per cent and the total sys tem increased 8.76 per cent. There was a gain of 102 in the number of library users. One of the fastest growing aspects of the service through the branch libraries was in the number of requests sent into headquarters. This repre sented a 40 per cent increase since July 1. The proposed budget for 1963-64 was also presented to the board by Omar A. Bacon, librarian, and was approved by the board for presentation to the Jackson county budget committee.
