The squad travelec" to Eu
gene in cars of Head Coach
Frank Roylandt, Jayvee
Coach Tom Marirr and sports
caster Tom MacLeod. Players
will work out on the Mc-
Artnur iioor this evening.
They have 45 minutes to
themselves on the court.
While Medford enters the
tourney as a League co-champion,
Lebanon goes as the
No. 2 club from the Valley
league (District 8). Each was
a pre-tourney favorite to
reach the tournament. How
ever, the Tornadoes got there
the hard way. With the league
campaign half through, Mod
ford was in fourth place three
eames back of the loop leader.
The locals then took their
next eight straight conflicts
to tie with the Grants Pass
Cavemen for the diadem.
They thereby carry a winning
streak Into the A-1 extrava
ganza. The big twister goes into
the tourney after missing the
Big Show last year. Medford
last win the championship in
1960. In 1961 the Tornado
was runner up to Klamath
Falls in one, of the all-time
great tournament finales. Last
year, a Cinderella Grants
Pass aggregation carried on
Southern Oregon conference
domination by winning the
championship - third straight
for this district.
GP Versus South Salem
Medford takes a 18-B sea
ton record io Eugene. It was
1 1-5 for league play. Lebanon
alio was 16 8 for the 1962
1963 slate. The Warriors were
14-4 in their league. Their
April 10 Bout
Chances Grow
More Remote
Chicago-dTD-The betting to
day was not who would win,
but whether the Sonny Liston-
Floyd Patterson would come
off as scheduled in Miami on
April 10.
Chances of the heavyweight
title match meeting its Florida
date grew Increasingly remote
over the week end. Jack Nil
on, the champion's advisor,
said it would have to be post
poned because of Liston's I
knee injury.
Liston, limping slightly and .
obviously overweight, arriv-1
ed in Chicago Sunday for a 1
week's rest and a doctor's ex-1
amination of his left knee. It I
was injured orginally in
swinging a golf club and Nil-1
! on said it buckled Wednesday!
i when the champion threw a !
left hook at the punching bag.
"We're primarily concern
ed now with whether there
I will have to be an operation,"
said Nilon. "We just don't
know and nobody could ex-
' pect him to fight the way it is
now."
