CHAM BORLAND J KlAMAtH FALLS VT A first team of almost all six-looters has been chosen in the Medford Mail Trib une's 1963 Southern Oregon conference basketball poll. Six players were named to the No. 1 team two each from Crater and Grants Pass and one each from Medford and Klamath Falls. Medford High school's 6-4 ' 4 Jack Forde headed the selec tions as the only player to get all possible points. Cra ter placed Howard Tomlin son, 6-1, the league's top scorer, and Mike Glints, 5-8. Grants Pass choices were Al Hutchins, 6-3, and Jim Pippin, 6-2. Wayne Chamberland, 6-3, Klamath Falls, lied with Pip pin for the fifth position on the team. Named on the second team were Lou Alvarez, 5-8, Crater; Jim Hill, 6-2' 2, Medford; Dan Miles, 5-7, Medford, Fred Kcllcy, 6-4, Klamath Falls, and Jim Lamb, 6-5, Ashland. All-Opponent Coaches and teams of the five member schools cast bal lots in the poll on an all-opponent basis. They did not vote for their own players. Tabulation was made by the Mail Tribune. Two points were awarded for a first team vote and one point for second team selection. A player needed at least two points for honorable mention. Forde got first team votes from all opposing teams and coaches for a total of 16 points. Tomlinson got 14 points and Hutchins and Glines each 13. Pippin and Chamberland each had 12. Alvarez barely missed first team choice. He had 11 points to lead the No. 2 lineup. There were no repeaters from 1962 on the first team. Alvarez and Miles were sec ond team choices last year. Hill was a first team choice last season. Mike Glines and Lou Alva res. Crater, were chosen on the fourth team. Honorable mentions from this area were Al Hutchins, Grants Pass, and Rick Pierce, Ashland. First team selections were Dave Rompannen, Astoria; Bill Thomas, North Eugene; Nick Jones and Stan Koltsch, Marshall, and John Pinkstaff, South Eugene. Canada, Swedes Vie in Hockey . Stockholm - lUPB - Canada and Sweden meet tonight in a 'grudge' match which could settle the World Ice Hockey championships and has the usually phlegmatic Swedes in a frenzy. The Canadians trail Swe den by one point after five games, nine to ten. Russia has eight and the Czechs seven. Each team has two games left. The United States finally got its first victory of the championships Thursday when it beat West Germany, 8-4.
