Other team honors were: McCovey Homers Twice As Giants Win Again; Marichal Comes To Camp Scottsdale, Ariz.-OIPP-Willie McCovey is hitting, the San Francisco Giants are winning, and Juan Marichal is in camp. Now if only Orlando Cepeda would come to terms, the Gi ants would be ready for 1963. McCovey lost a pair of prodigious clouts into the desert air at Phoenix Monday as the Giants took a 9-7 slug- fest from the Boston Red Sox. Willie then left the game with a string of three consecu tive homers to his credit and a gaudy spring batting aver age of .667, based on four homers, a double and a sin gle in nine at bats. His first round-tripper Mon day left the ball park at the 390 foot mark and landed on top of a tall palm tree. His second one cleared the score board in right center field. The blasts brought home four runs. Jack Sahford got the win, although he was touched for five hits in three innings. Big Don Larsen took over and looked especially sharp. , He allowed two paltry sin gles in three frames and im mediately established himself No. 1 on manager Al Dark's list of relievers. Ron Herbel took over and was shelled for five hits and five runs, three of them earned. But most of the safeties off him were bleeders and Herbel looked a little sharper than the record might indicate Dark had a ragt.T mixture of youngsters and vets going with many of the Giant stars sitting the contest out. Tom Haller and Joey Amalfitano each slugged a single and a double. Billy Pierce and Jack Fish er were slated to hurl today's joust against Boston's Earl Wilson and others here. r.an Francisco is 2-1 In Cactus League tussles. Meanwhile, the picture with the Giants' holdouts 'as both good and bad. The former was hurlcr Juan Marichal, who showed up in camp only about 10 pounds overweight at 200 pounds when rumor had him ballooning up to 22(5 or so. He met with Giant brass, got nowhere, but said he would sign his contract in a day or two and pay his $250 fine Wednesday for pitching a cou ple of times in the winter illegally. Cepeda not only refused to come to terms but told tne LININGER'S MAIL IHlBUNt, MU'UMU, First expert - Siskiyou Pis tol club, Fore Jones, Calif.
