Family Birthrate
Said To Be tower
Chicago -rtlPIl- An estimated
4.9 million babies will be born
in the U.S. in 1970, but there
will be fewer babies per fam
ily, the Population Reference
bureau estimated.
The bureau said a rise in
the number of potential
mothers offsets a falling fer
tility rate. The latter dropped
from 122.7 births per 1,000
women 13 to 44 years of age
in 1957 to 117.3 in 1961.
