MARCH B. 1963 Social Events Concert Set For Sunday Ashland - The Southern Oregon Little Symphony or cestra will play its annual winter concert Sunday, March 10 at 2 p.m. in Churchill audi torium. Featured performer for this concert will be Kar lin Hhees, flutist. Mrs. Rhecs will play the solo part in "Concerto for Flue, Strings and Harpsichord" by Vivaldi, and "Night Soliloquy" by Kent Kennan. Under the baton of Dr. Her bert Cecil, director, the or chestra will play Beethoven's "Symphony No. 1 in C Ma jor," "Dovetail Overture" by Robert Mucqynski, "Perpc tuum Mobile" by Johann Strauss and "Sleeping Beau ty Waltz" by Tchaikovsky. There will be no admission charge although an offering will be accepted for the bene fit of the music scholarship fund at SOC. Fathers are especially in vited to attend this, the only evening meeting of the year, which will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Included in the program will be a display of various projects, both individual and group, which have been made in the industrial arts classes. The articles to be displayed arc of both a useful and dec orative nature. -hi i ill Dance Jamboree Is Announced By Yreka Club Yreka's Circle N Square Dance club members announc ed today that their eleventh annual square dance jambo ree will be held on March 30 and 31. This colorful week end will begin at the National Guard armory Saturday eve ning with a get-acquainted dance, featuring the well known caller from Stockton, Calif., Dick Houlton. Byron (Buzz) Dibble of Medford will be the master of ceremonies at the after party. Sunday will start off with a Cowboy breakfast to be fol lwoed by .' callers jamboree, under the direction of Floyd Workman, who will introduce callers from California and Oregon. To conclude Sunday's activities a dinner will be sponsored and served by the local dance club. Trophies are to be awarded to the dance club with the largest group present on Sun day and to the club with two couples or more from the most distant point from Yreka. Women Attend Portland Session Prospect Three members of the Prospect Lions auxili ary planned to be in Portland today for the spring board meeting of the Oregon Lions auxiliary. They are Mrs. George Hubbard, director for this district: Mrs. Sherman Poole, club president, and Mrs. Eugene Arias. Mrs. Bruce Pingle of the Butte Falls auxiliary will accom pany the Prospect group. Mrs. Poole plans to con tinue to Seattle, Wash., to visit relatives before return ing home. MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE. MEDFORD. OREGON Wife of ! Scientist To Speak Ashland Ava Helen Paul ing, wife of the noted scien tist, Dr. Linus Pauling, and a national vice-president of the Women's International League for Peace and Free dom, will speak at a lunch eon here March 15. The event is being sponsored by Ashland Soroptimist club and will be held at 12 noon in the Mark Antony hotel. The luncheon will be open to both men and women and reservations are necessary; they may be made by calling Miss Irene Wehrli, Ashland, 482-3266. Mrs. Pauling will speak on the topic, "Propects for World Cooperation and Peace" at the luncheon. She is also a member of the American Civil Liberties union. Dr. Pauling, Nobel prize winner and professor of chemistry at the California Insitute of Technology, will address an assembly at South ern Oregon college at 2 p.m. in Churchill hall. At 9 p.m. March 14 the Paulings will be guests at an informal coffee hour in Britt Student center. Students, fac ulty and townspeople are in vited to attend this event as well as the assembly. PTA Carnival To Be Planned Plans for a carnival to be held March 29 will be made at a meeting of Lincoln Par. cnt-Teacher association to be held Friday, March 8, at 2:30 p.m. in the school gymnasum A nominating committee will be elected. A single public presentation, under the direc tion of Mrs. Lenore Zapell, on March 12 will begin at 8 p.m. in the arena theater. Room 61 in the High school annex. Readers theater, which de pends primarily on vocal inter pretation and facial expres sion to convey the impact of a play, is a new device for the high school group. Within recent years, however, the producer, Paul Gregory, has successfully used this means to bring to theater goers "John Brown's Body" and "Don Juan in Hell" with stars such as Charles Laughton, Tyrone Power, and Agnes Moorehead. Tracy Blackstone, recently selected as best actress in one act plays at the Oregon Thesp ian conference, has been cast as Antigone. Creon, the tyran nical ruler of Thebes, will be interpreted by Greg Keith, president of the local troupe. Carolyn Bowser will be seen as Ismene, the young girl who urges her sister not to defy the edict of Creon. Haemon, the son of Creon, will be played by Bill Hous ton. Tiresias, the blind pro phet, will be portrayed by John Hettinga. Others in the cast are Mike De Salvio, the sentinel who captures Anti gone; Jim Kerber, the mes senger who reports the tragic events o fthe play to the pop ulace; Judie Brookman, Eury dice, the wife of Creon and mother of Haemon. Members of the chorus are Frank Williams, the first sen ator, Paul Goodwin, and Judy Foreman. The narrative which introduces the play and sev eral scenes of the play will be handed by Richard La Fleur. Present Tickets may be secured from Thespians.
