Kraut Specialties
Popular With Men
The men of the family seem
to have a special liking for
zestful sauerkraut which
comes handily in both No. 2
cans and the bigger 2'i size
cans dependent on number of
men to be fed.
Kraut-Stuffed Chops
In a saucepan, combine one
one-pound 11 ounce (No. 2V4)
can sauerkraut, one cup chop
ped onion, one medium size

two tablespoons firmly pack
ed brown sugar. Cook over
medium heat until onions are
tender and liquid has evapor
ated. Remove from heat and
add one medium size potato,
pared and grated. Meanwhile,
sprinkle six medium-thick
pork chops with salt and pep
per.
To stuff, place pork chops
on counter, top with kraut
mixture, another pork chop;
repeat layers until all ingred
ients are used. Tie securely
with heavy string and place
in roasting pan, fat side up.
Bake in moderate oven, 350
degrees, two hours and 15

Winter Vegetables
Are Super Values
Competition is indeed the
life of trade as local super
markets keep on their toes,
tell consumers about their
"good buys" in ads in this
newspaper and pile high other
s p e c la l s throughout their
stores. You see, their "best
buys become your "best
buys" as they feature results
of their good merchandising
methods.
February is a month when
adequate amounts of Vitamin
C is vital in the family's diet.
Stock up on frozen Juice con
centrates and canned fruit
and vegetable juices. An ade
quate amount of Vitamin C
helps ward off colds and this
is something to remember as
health authorities warn west
coasters that the Asian flu is
headed this direction and that
probably 20 per cent of our
population will "get" it.
Heavy processing of frozen
orange concentrate in Decem
ber pushed warehouse hold
ings up to the largest ever
recorded. When it comes to
fresh oranges, the California
freeze had no immediate ef
fect on supply of navel or
anges which mostly had been
narvested.
Canned Juices
Other Vitamin C-rlch iuices
In abundance include tomato
juice to which you probably
will add a lively squeeze of
lemon juice, combination
vegetable juices which have
so much zest, pineapple juice.
