Plans for Timber Harvest on BLM Noted by Manager Flans for the harvest of 288 million board feet of tim ber during the fiscal year starting July 1 have been an nounced by Donald J. Scho field, Medford district man ager for the bureau of land management. An agency of the United States Department of the In terior, BLM is charged with the coordinated management of timber, forage, minerals, recreation, wildlife, water, Dennis the 'He THINKS Try and By BENNETT CERF- CAMPUS HUMOR: 1. "Hey, little boy, can you direct me to the best movie in town?" "Yeah. For fifty cents." "Isn't that pretty high?" "Not for a movie director." 2. Sailor: "Are you nautical?" Pretty young thing: "No, I'm niceical." 3. "I owe all I have to one woman." "Your mother?" ! No, my landlady." 4. Aboard a Mediter ranean cruise ship: "What's that white stuff on yonder hill, Cap tain?" "That is snow, Miss." "I thought so, but that creep at the railing told it was Greece. When the late advertising genius, Albert Lasker, was running the Lord and Thomas agency, he hired, at $9,000 a year, an up-and-coming young copy writer named William Benton. In a few years' time Benton had upped his take-home pay to $25,000 and then Lasker called him in to his private office to announce magnanimously, "Bill, you've become so important to me around here, I'm going to double your salary." "Why, Mr. Lasker!" was Benton's unexpected reaction. "Do you mean to say that I have been worth 50 thousand a year during all this time you've been paying me only 25 ? You've been taking my money!" Lasker was furious at the time but when Benton entered politics, Lasker was one of his biggest backers. C 1363, by Bennett Cerf. Distributed by King Features. Syndicate Itar -By CLAY R. Distribution of the timber sale plan this year has been several months earlier than formerly, thus giving prospec tive purchasers a better op portunity to schedule timber acquisition, according to Rob ert D. Hostetter, Medford dis trict resource management specialist. This is the' 14th successive year that the bu reau of land management has published advance plans for timber harvest, he said. Two Americans Stabbed in Mexico Mexico City-IUPD-Police said Thursday a California man was stabbed to death and a Texas student was stabbed and robbed late Wednesday by apparent pro-Castro terror ists. The man was identified as Fred Plumley, about 65, who was a Republican party vol unteer worker in the San Francisco area in 1960 and 1962. The student was Philip Bennett Jr., 24, a Negro, San Antonio, Tex. Bennett said he and Plum ley were attacked by two unidentified armed men when they arrived at their apart ment. Bennett had been studying sociology here for the past four months. Plum- ley, who arrived a week ago, was staying with him.
