12 A FRIDAY. FEBRUARY 22. 19S3 MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE. MEDFORD. OREGON Tlic Family Council Kdltor'a note: Tha Family Vnutiril rnmliii f it, Ebychiatrtat, Urea clergymen, three cdttori and a women't editor, ach article ii a luminary of a family disagreement preentd to tha Council. The Council dealt with problems, major and minor, ncountcred by guidance counkelori and aortal workers. Edited by Harriet F. - A tenant in my building is making my life miserable. Md. 1. B. - I won't put her out on just Miss F.'i say-so. Harriet F. - There's a worn' an in the house where I re tide whose actions are abonv inable. She's in the room next to mine and she has the ir ritating habit of slamming hr door with all the strength she can summon. Its the same with the bathroom door in the hall. We also share the use of the kitchen and the refriger ator with three other women on the same floor. I'm only there for one meal a day, in the afternoon, and I try to be out of there when she reaches home. Now I learn that someone stole her chick en from the icebox and she has been blaming mel No body likes her. The other roomers and I have spoken to the landlord about her, but he says we must try to get along. Mr. I. B. - The caretaker of my building lives on the premises and he informs me this is Just a hen fight. He says the others are used to it, but Miss F. is only there a few months and doesn't un derstand that life in a room ing house isn't the same as having a private home. The woman she complains most about has been my ten ant for almost four years now. True, she has a few ec centricities, but who hasn't? She's close to 70 and when she slams those doors, either they slip out of her hands, or she forgets because she's wrapped in her thoughts She once told me that she lost two close members of her family at the hands of Hitler. Instead of fighting with her, Miss F. should approach her in a nice way and be friends. show her neighbor how It feels. And certainly she's aimed a few tongue-lashings at this troublesome co-tenant. Now she's campaigning to get ner evicted. But there's no evidence that she's tried the simple human approach of asking the lady to "live and let live, As long as these all-alone women are destined to share the same roof, they might as well turn it into a small' scale UN, with every effort made to smooth over differ ences. In this sense the land lord, Mr. B., (or the caretaker) might try a bit more diligent ly to fill the role of a medi ator and peacemaker a la Ralph Bunche. Without threats or accusations, lie might offer to listen open mindedly to the "beefs" on both sides and attempt to ease the tension-fraught sit uation, In the event, however, that Miss F.'s position is just, that she is the victim of an irre sponsible and malicious house-mate, she can seek le gal redress. If all peaceable approaches fail, she can go to a lawyer or Legal Aid, or directly to her District At torney. She can file suit under a charge such is harassmpnt, breach of peace, creating a disturbance. But here's tin important caution: She must be sure of her facts, and have corroborating evidence. Else this step may boomerang painfully, with the accused neighbor filing a complaint against Miss F. for false ar-, restl For tomorrow, Miss F., in vile the lady in for a chick en dinner. The Council - There arc four ways which come lo mind on how Miss F. might handle her feud with the lady in the next room. (1) Speak to her nicely, (2) Move, (3) Fight, or (4) Oct her to move We gather from Miss F.'s lengthy bill of particulars (snarply trimmed above) that sue s tried all except the most important one the first! She's looked for other quarters but finds her present home just right In terms of the modest pension check she must live off and make do with. So she can't move. We'll bet she's been doing her own fair share of door slamming in retaliation, to Three Patients Are Flown lo Hospitals Three patients were flown north to hospitals for treat ment Wednesday and Thurs day by Mercy Flights Inc.
