TUESDAY, Bearcats 1 st Loss; By NORMAN MILLER UPI Sports writtr New York -flIPD- Cincin nati's first defeat failed to shake the Bearcats from the No. 1 spot in the United Press International college basket ball ratings today, but Loy ola, whose perfect record also -was ruined, was replaced by Duke in second place. Wichita vaulted all the way from 17th place to sixth this week on the strength of the 65 - 64 upset victory which ended Cincinnati's 37 -game, two-season winning streak. Lewis and Clark and Pa cific swept six Northwest con ference basketball games from the eastern pair on an Invasion earlier in the season, but the home clubs were ready when Willamette and Linfield hit town. Whitman edged Linfield 73-71 at Walla Walla Monday nlqht to hand the Wildcats their thiid straight defeat. College of Idaho romped over Willamette 72-48, giving the Bearcats a 1-2 record on the tour. College of Idaho ran Its league record to 8-6 as Dan Aycrs scored 22 points and grabbed the same number of rebounds. Bob Woorile scored 13 for Willamette, which has a 4-0 record. Request Made To Override Veto Salem - IllPD - The Oregon Senate will be asked to over ride a veto made by Gov. Murk llaltlcld utter the liltil legislature adjourned. The Senate Alcohol Control Committee voted Monday to recommend that the govern or's veto be overriden. There was one dissenting vole, by Sen. Edward Fadeley (D-Eu- gene). Year-Round School Program Attacked Salem - IOT - lirp. Carrol i Howe, (It-Klamath Kails), said Monday compulsory year I round school and college pro grams would have a serious impact on Oregon's economy. Howe said the state would suffer from loss of student workers during the peak-employment summer months. He said such key industries as lumber, fire control, construc tion, agriculture and tourist businesses need larger work forces during the summer. Howe, former superinten dent of Klamath county schools, said students also would suffer under a compul sory program. He said many students now finance their education by summer work. Sophomore Doug Smith, 123, captured SOC's only championship. He defeated OTl's Dennis Sather, 4-1, in the finale. The Raiders also had three seconds, four thirds and two fourths. OTI had two champs, four runnersup, one third and three fifths. Eastern Oregon also had two winners along with two thirds and six fifths. There were few falls in the tourney.
