Step Right Up My wife and I aren't showy, vain folk, We're caution people, safe-and-sane folk. So when there's need around our house To mount a ladder, my good spouse And I, with care and well-planned scheme, work Together in long-practiced teamwork. To make quite certain nothing's wrong, We check each step, make sure it's strong, And level legs so they are steady. At last, when everything is ready, Since I know how, a skilled old-timer, I hold the ladder she's the climber. Richard Armour CbV Quips and Quotes The little boy had only one ambition in life. He wanted to grow up to be center fielder for the New York Yankees. "Oh, heavens," said his mother in disgust one day, "you are going to be much more im portant than a major-league baseball player. I want you to grow up to be Presi dent of the United States!" The elderly widow was going to visit her son and daughter-in-law, and it was her first air plane flight Throughout the trip she sat perched nervously on the edge of the seat When her son greeted her at the air port, he asked how she enjoyed the trip. "It was very nice," she said. Then in a confidential whisper, she added: "Of course, I never let all my weight down." Jack Stoner Something Fishy Fishy, fishy in the brook, Daddy caught him with a hook. Also with a line, I'll bet, And rod and reel and lure and net Which added up in figures round Makes him cost five bucks a pound. Suzanne Douglass To please his mother, the boy went along with the idea until a few days later when a visiting uncle asked him if he knew what he wanted to be as a grownup. "I've thought it over," the youngster replied, "and I've decided to play center field for the Yankees and in the off sea son to be President of the United States." Hugh Burr Eij With George Washington's birthday approaching, the first grade teacher planned an ap propriate history exercise. She started out with a question. "First can anybody tell us who George Washington was?" From the back of the room came a firm answer. "Sure, he was the first Kennedy." Sarah Jennings "I'm afraid this is good-bye, darling tomorrow we're moving to the third floor." Calculated Risk The doctors all say that a great deal of wealth, Plus too little to do, isn't good for the health; It's much worse than smoking or improper diet, Which well may be true but I'd sure love to try it!
