for years have been one of
the most peaceable corps in

It was generally felt that
his association with such an

MOX LINDQUIST, St. Paul's leading humorist, tells about
a Swedish truck driver who hopped out of his seat at
every red light, and pounded the walls of his truck with a
heavy iron bar. Mox
drove alongside to in

driver, "Dis bane a six

daughter clapped her hands delightedly, and cried. "Oh, Daddy!

Mrs. Dillcnberg, on the veranda of the Comfort Arms, re

Despite the evidence that
Snead and the Peace Corps
were made for each other,
Wickersham objected to his
employment, basing his dis
sent not so much on the prin
ciple of the thing as the
money.
At a Democratic congress
man from Oklahoma, he
took the position that $75
a day was a somewhat ex
cessive fee for the Peace
Corps to be paying a rookie
consultant
In Oklahoma, football
teams are more famed for
their ferocity than their gen
erosity. It was understandable
that Wickersham would be
opposed to a policy of Peace
Corpsmen at any price.
Either because of Wicker
sham's protest or in spite of
it, Peace Corps Director Sar
gent Shriver quickly convert
ed his consultant to an unpaid
status, making Snead the
Peace Corps equivalent of a
dollar-a-year man.
Snead thus became one of
the few professional athletes
to absorb a 100 per cent pay
cut in a single off-season.
Not even George Preston
Marshall, the open - handed
owner of the Redskins, has
been able to go that far. When
Shriver leaves the govern
ment, Marshall may want to
hire him as a consultant.

sale of U.S. Savings Bonds. On this important Anniversary
the President of the American Bankers Association states:
"U. S. Savings
Bonds have helped
the American people
to become a nation

"In their contribution to America's economic
and military strength, Savings Bonds have had
an important part in preserving a way of Ufa

possible the kind of progress typified in our own
observance of this Centennial year.
"But in addition to this role in the national
