Dr. Hall, an associate pro fessor of English, will conduct a workshop session in novel writing, and deliver a lecture on the same subject. Former conference leaders have included such famous writers as Thomas Wolfe, Sherwomi Anderson, Carl Sandburg and Philip Wylie. The UO writer is author of numerous short stories, arti cles and two novels. "Racers to the Sun" was published last year. Carrying One's Medical Record More and more people, es pecially diabetics who are tak ing large doses of insulin, are coming to realize that they should carry always with them a note I a I about their ill ness atta " c medicine they are taking, so that if they go into an insulin reac tion, in which they be come mental ly confused and act strangely the police will not arrest them for drunkenness, and then per haps leave tl.sm in jail until they die or suffer serious in jury to their brain. What is sad about insulin reactions is that often the per son who is slipping into one either does not realize what is happening, or he loses his ability to do anything about the situation. He neither tells the people around him he is in trouble, nor does he take from his pocket the sugar that would quickly bring him out of his woozy state. Such a man ought always to wear a special bracelet that contains the necessary infor mation that he is a diabetic and that the sugar he carries with him can cure him if he starts to act peculiarly. Some men carry the information in a belt buckle; others carry it in their wallet or their bill fold; and women carry it in their handbag, but the brace let is the most obvious, and hence the best carrier of the information. To carry it in one's wallet or billfold is not so good, because a bystander might misinterpret the action of someone, perhaps a police man, who would go through a sick man's pockets or bill fold. Today, thousands of men who have had a heart attack are taking a drug which keeps their blood from clotting too well. If such a man should happen to have an auto acci dent which tears open an ar tery, he might easily bleed to death unless the doctor who arrives quickly learns that he is taking the anti-coagulant drug, and then gives him some vitamin I to restore the abili ty of his blood to clot. A few people are now sup plying the necessary record holders, and their addresses can be obtained by writing me at Box 957, Des Moines 4, Iowa. There is a non-emergency type of medical record which many a person, and especially one with a rare and puzzling type of disease, would do well to carry - of the instruction of a physician who may be called to take care of him or her in London, or Cairo or Honolulu. This record can be microfilmed, so it will take even less space than does a credit card. Gov. James Pollack of Pennsylvania (IB00-08) was the father of the "In God We Trust" motto on United States coins. Tax Credit Subject Of Local Meeting The effect of the 7 per cent investment lax credit on new machinery and other assets was discussed here Wednes day at the meeting of Rogue Valley chapter. American In stitute of Banking, at Med ford High school. William S. Cobb, certified public accountant for Haskiiis and Sells in Medford, led the discussion and pointed out the trouble spots to be watched for in the effect on leases, sales and rentals. Other points discussed were the new bulle tin "F" Internal Revenue reg ulation and what the banker should know about this regulation. Cobb was introduced by Gil bert Stuart, Medford branch, U. S. National Bank officer, and president of the local chapter. All bank employees are eli gible to attend the seminars which will be held once each month through May on such subjects as "Automation in Banking, Fraud, Robbery and Embezzlement and the New Federal Reserve System, ' Stu art said. r- A 1 Search-Rescue Station Planned at Brookings Washington-(UPD-Thi Coast Guard plans to establish a search and rescue station at Brookings -nd a helicopter air detachme t at Astoria-, Sen.
