Dart, will leave Jan. 7 for India, Pakistan, Thailand and Malaya where he will under take a six week scientific study on behalf of the Nation al Academy of Sciences. The Academy selected Dr. Dart and a biologist from the University of California at Berkely, Dr. Robert Gibbens. to study science teaching methods and needs in the 'underdeveloped" countries. By surveying educators and persons who determine educa tional policy in these Asian countries, the two professors hope to obtain suggestions on how the United States may best be of assistance. At present, the Academy is preparing an instructional book emphasizing laboratory techniques which is expected to be useful in teaching sci ence in the under - developed countries. Dr. Dart's study will help determine whether or not the book will be acceptable. LITTLE UNUSUAL Chicago - lUPll - "Yes, it looked a little suspicious," Mrs. Nancy Jones told police who discovered a 550-pound safe in her living room and added that her husband, Stacy, and two men "brought it home during the night." The officer waited for Jones to come home and arrested him. Astronaut May Make 22 Orbits Houston-illPlt-Astronaut Gor don Cooper could possibly make 22 orbits around the earth if his Mercury flight goes well this spring. The space agency's Manned Spacecraft Center said Thurs day present plans arc to add four more orbits if the first 18 are successful. The change would mean that Cooper would land in the Pacific in stead of the Atlantic Ocean as planned earlier. The space agency will de ploy recovery forces in both oceans. The change In the number of orbits could extend Cooper's lime in space from 24 to 34 hours. Chamber Adopts Labor Legislation Washington (UPlv The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Thurs day announced a 10-polnt la bor legislation program which included a campaign for right-1 to-work laws and opposition ; to a shorter work week. President Ladd Plumley said the chamber would sup port the right of states to en act laws against compulsory unionism. "Our freedoms are dimin-, ished when a man is forced to join a union to earn a liv-; ing," Plumley said. The short er work week, he said, would weaken the economy by cur tailing production at a time when increased production was needed.
