MCDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE. MEDFORD, OREGON Study in Germany Planned as Part Of Music Program Eugene - A year of music study in Germany U being planned as part of the Uni versity of Oregon's 1963-64 curriculum. The program, announced this week by Dean of Facul ties Robert D. Clark, is spon aored by the university in co operation with the Interna tional Society for Music Edu cation. Financing of the program will be solely through fees charged to the students, with no cost borne by the State System of Higher Education. Cost of the year in Ger many will be $1980, plus the regular University tuition fee. Included in the total charge is transportation from New York and return, housing and meals in German homes, bus transportation in Europe to enable students to visit Switzerland, Austria, the Netherlands, and France, and 30 to 40 attendances at op eras, concerts, and festivals. Cykler Named Director Dr. Edmund A. Cykler, prb- lessor of music in the Univer sity, has been named director of the program of the Univer sity's German Center for In ternational Music Education. The program, as Dr. Cykler outlines it, will not be a tour but will be a part of students' educational experience. The curriculum will include 45 hours of credit in graduate and undergraduate courses, in music, music education, Ger man language, and history, plus visitation and observa tion in schools at all levels, from kindergratcn to univer sity. Students will also attend special lectures and confer ences with music educators and critics and visit radio and television stations that engage in music education programs, In addition to the tours to sev eral European music centers and the opportunity to attend musical events. Limited To 30 Participation in the Ger man program will be limited to 30 senior and graduate stu dents in music. The group will leave New York during the last week in September and spend nine months in Europe. Their Ger man center will be in Olden burg, Germany, site of a state teachers training institute.
