WOHLFORD Funeral services for Mrs. Maud Blanche Wohlford, of route 1, Gold Hill, who died Wednesday, will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday in Conger-Morris downtown chapel. The Rev. Dr. D. Kirkland West and the Rev. Robert T. Bridge of First Presbyterian church will officiate. Commit tal will be in Siskiyou Memo rial park. Mrs. Wohlford was born Jan. 1, 1885, in Baileyville, Kans., and had lived in Gold Hill since 1942, moving there from Downey, Calif. She was married Oct. 27, 1928, in Kansas City, to Clar ence Wohlford, who preceded her in death. She was a mem ber of the Daughters of the Nile. Survivors include a broth er, George B. Timberlake, St. Louis, Mo.; six sisters, Mrs. Gladys B. Burner, Sabetha, Kans.; Mrs. Bertha Witmer, Arapahoe, Nebr.; Mrs. Lena Bigalow, San Jose, Calif.; Mrs. Bula Mueller, Coeur d'Alene, Ida,; Mrs. La Vesta Knight, University City, Mo.; and Mrs. Erma Homeyer, Kirk wood, Mo., and several nieces and nephews. Casket bearers will include Fred McFarlane, D. Estrema do, William R. Berentsen, Dr. R. W. Larson, William T. Johnson, and Howard Harper. HARRY BRIDGE Harry Bridge, of 684 Fifth ave., Gold Hill, died last night at his home. Funeral arrange ments will be announced by Conger-Morris Funeral directors. ANGELO KAPPAS Hornbrook Angelo Kap pas, B7, a resident of Siskiyou county 40 years and of Horn brook 17 years, died Dec. 25 at his home here. He had been in 'failing health for several years. Mr. Kappas was born in Greece March 25, 1895. He is survived by a cousin, Harry Myers, of Modesto, Calif., and by brothers and sisters in Greece. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Girdner's Funeral chapel, Yre ka. Burial will be at Ever green cemetery, Yreka. PEARL E. INGRAM Pearl E. In a year-end report, FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover also said agents had to deal with a sharp increase in bank rob beries and civil rights investi gations. Hoover said tabulations for the year showed more than 12,700 convictions in FBI cases compared with 12,418 in 1961; arrest of 11.400 fugi tives wanted by the FBI com pared with 10,668 last year; PRESENTED AWARD - Fred F. Sears, 110 Winchester ave., was recently given the Most Valued Associate award of the Eugene agency of the Pru dential Insurance Company of America. Sears was presented the award at the annual meet ing of the agency in Eugene. Dryer Fire Medford fire men were called to the home of Clarence Hardwood, 502 Park St., at 11:48 a.m. yester day when a clothes dryer caught fire. The fire appar ently started when lint in the machine ignited. No damage resulted. Altrusa Luncheon The Altrusa club of Medford will hold its annual Christmas luncheon at the Rogue Valley Country club at noon Satur day, Dec. 29. Members may bring guests and any Altru sans visiting in the valley are invited. Hostesses for the event are Mrs. S. Ralph Dip pel, Mrs. Lucine Miles and Miss Catherine Fonken. Flue Fire A flue fire at the home of Mrs. Martha John son, 1311 Reddy si., resulted in slight damage to the roof from sparks Thursday, ac cording to Medford firemen who were called about 9 p.m. Returns Home Mrs. Frank Myers has returned to her home at 1034 West 13th St., Medford, after being in Spo kane, Wash., for five weeks because of serious illness in her family. ' Business Name The busi ness name Siskiyou Studios has been a&sumed by Larry B. Morin, 4459 Colver rd., according to records in the Jackson county recorder's of fice. Election Set Officers will be elected by the Veterans of World War I and auxiliary Wednesday. Jan. 2, at the Girls Community club. The meeting will begin at 8 p.m. . Erect Retidence The Med ford building department Thursday issued a permit to A. R. Dubs to erect a resi dence at 1521 Miracle lane at an estimated cost of $12,-000. and fines, savings and recov eries totaling more than S200 million compared with $148 million in 1961. In citing crime problems confronting the FBI, Hoover said there was an increase nf approximately 25 per cent in bank robbery violations. "An average of 100 rob beries, burglaries and lar cenies of banks and other fi nancial institutions have been reported to the FBI each month this year," Hoover said. No reason was given for the increase but it was believed that the establishment of a large number of branch banks and savings and loan offices in suburban areas resulted in more robberies. Hoover said there had been an extensive increase in in vestigations in the civil rights field. He called attention to a series of church-burnings in Georgia last August and Sep tember. "Based upon indications that the purpose of these acts was to discourage Negroes from voting, the FBI insti tuted intensive investigation which led to the prompt solu tion of the Sept. 17 burning of a church in Terrell County, Ga., and to arrests of two per sons for a church burning near Leesburg, Ga., on Aug. 15," Hoover said. The report said informa tion gathered by the FBI led to the smashing of an inter national narcotics ring during the year and seizure of illegal drugs valued at more than $20 million. The report also touched on FBI investigation of the Com munist party in the United States. "During the most critical moments of the Cuban crisis," Hoover said, "the party open ly proved its loyalty to the in ternational Communist cause. Its members stood unwaver ingly opposed to our country's efforts to stop the Soviet Union's build-up of offensive military equipment in Cuba and to assure the removal of such weapons already there." Hoover cited the FBI's ac complishments in the field of domestic intelligence, includ ing seizure of a cache of ex plosives and arrest of three pro-Castro Cubans on sabo tage conspiracy charges in New York last month. The FBI director said in formation gathered by his agency led to the conviction of the Communist party ear lier this month on a charge of failing to register with the attorney general under the In ternal Security Law. Woman Injured in Morning Accident Myrtle Irene Andrew, 48, of 525 North Riverside ave., was slightly injured when the car she was driving col lided with a truck about 8:12 o'clock this morning at Maple and Pine sts., accord ing to city police. Mrs. Andrew was treated as an out-patient at Rogue I Valley hospital. Driver of the truck was William Elmo Packard Jr., 49, of 417 J st. Mrs. Andrew was cited for failure to yield the right of way, police said. A city police car was mod erately damaged about 1:40 a.m. today when it struck a state highway marker post on North Pacific hwy. Dri ver of the car was Officer Jo seph Marshall Roup, who said in his report he was distract ed from his driving by the car ahead of him, which he suspected of a violation. Two Arrested on Burglary Charges Clifford Ray Willoughby, 22, of 918 Maple Park dr., and Richard Lester Curtis, 19, same address, were ar rested by Medford city police yesterday on a charge of burglary. In a related case, city po lice also cooperated with Cen tral Point police in the ar rest of John Robert Clark, 19. Central Point, on a charge of possession and concealment of stolen property. The arrests grew out of the alleged theft by Willoughy of a micrometer set valued at S50 from Stevens Auto Sales, 505 North Central ave., in August. According to reports. Willoughby then sold the set to Clark, who allegedly knew it to be stolen property. Police said Curtis and Wil loughby also confessed the theft of about S62 in cash from Crater Aulo Supply. 501 North Central ave., earlier this month. Curtis also admitted to of ficers, according to reports, that he took a variety of other items from a local su permarket, Stevens Auto Sales and Crater Auto Sup ply over a period of time. The complaint, filed by Lawrence M. Moody, 218 Ash land ave., Medford, on behalf of his son, David L. Moody, who was 11 years old at the time of the accident, asks $45,000 damages from Clark L. Barker, 222 Ashland ave. Accordingtrf the complaint, the boy was riding his bicycle when Barker collided with the bicyclist. The boy suffer ed a fractured pelvis, coin compound fracture of the left femur, and scalp and hip lacerations, according to the complaint. The men, Mitchell W. Pax ton, 22, and Teddy Tewalt, were arrested on a complaint signed by Ashland Police Chief Herb Hayes. They are suspected of the burglaries of the homes of Robert Van Vleet, 734 Elkader St., and Arthur Peters, 1150 Ashland St.. police said. Paxton was relumed to Jackson county, and is being held in the county jail. He is charged with burglary. Te walt was on parole in Cali fornia, and the parole has been revoked by California authorities, police said. A de tainer was placed against him by Jackson county authorities. Medford Boys Hurt In Biddle Rd. Crash Two 16-year-old Medford boys were injured Thursday morning when the motorcycle they were riding collided with a car at Biddle rd. and Stevens St., according to city police. Taken to Sacred Heart hos pital were Daniel Joseph Tay lor, 435 South Grape St., and Michael Dennis O'Hara. 416 West 11th st. Taylor was re ported in good condition to day, and O'Hara was de scribed as in fair condition. Driver of the car was Don ald Richard Johnson, 33, Grants Pass. No citations were issued.
