MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE. MEDFORD. OREGON Traditional Dance Planned By St. Ma ry's H ig h School TUESDAY. DECEMBER IS. 1962 Among the focial events planned for young people of the city during the holidays Is Hie annual Winter tormal dance of St. Mary's High school. The traditional event will be held December 28 at Rogue Valley Country club between 8 o'clock and midnight. Roy Taylor's band will play. Chosen queen of the event Is Miss Charlotte Sokolowskl, a daughter of Mrs. Sophie So kolowski, 2301 Barnett road. She is a senior. Queen Char lotte's court will include Miss Kathy Newcom, senior prin cess; Miss Kathy Zapell, jun ior princess; Miss Mary Re menteria, sophomore princess and Miss Terri Calhoun, fresh man princess. The coronation is set for 10:30 o'clock. Michael Stinson is chair man of the event, and his committee includes Peter Naumes, Don Lorenz and Miss Sandra Cook. To remove pine pitch from your hands after handling Christmas trees and evergreen branches, sprinkle them with dry baking soda and rub hands together. Knights Conduct Yule Ceremony Ashland - A tradition of long standing is the annual Christ mas morning observance of Malta Commandery, Knights Templars. For many years inemoers and their ladies have gathered for the December 25 service followed by a boun tiful breakfast provided from the farms of Knights Temp lars. The custom has continued from horse-and-bugR.v days to the present and 1962 will be no different. As our Christmas day message we offer the following bit of writing, author unknown, found on a Hallmark Christinas card. "He was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. He grew up in still another village, where He work ed in a carpenter shop until He was thirty. Then for three years He was an itinerant preacher. He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never had a family or owned a house. He didn't go to college. He never visited a big city. He never traveled two hundred miles from the place where He was born. He did none of the things one usuallv assoicates with greatness. He had no credentials but Himself He was only 33 when the tide of public opinion turned against Him. His friends ran away. "He was turned over to his enemies and went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed to a cross between two thieves. While He was dying, His executioners gambled for hia clothing, the only property He had on earth. When He was dead, He was laid in a borrowed grave through the city of a friend. "Nineteen centuries have come and gone and today He is the central figure of the human race and the leader of mankind's progress. AH the armies that ever marched, all the navies that ever sailed, all the parliaments that ever sat, all the kings that ever reigned, put together, have not affected the life of man on this earth as much as that one solitary life." There are times when we feel slightly depressed over the fact that our life and job requires us '.o get up at the crack of dawn or an hour or two before dawn. Then, there are times when we are deeply thankful that our job makes us get up early. Monday morning was one of those times. Pappy, out In the back yard on an early-morning errand concerning the new little fire engine red car, Doll T II, came in to report an especially pretty morning sky. So Potpourri anad Grandpa took time out to walk out into the front yard and look to ward the East. A glorious sight met our eyes. A sliver of a pale moon hung in the morning blue southeast sky, and nearby was Venus, seemingly larger and brighter than ever before. It was more than beautiful it was awe-inspiring. As we looked, we thought, it must have been such a star as this that guided the Three Wise Men. O.S.
