8 B MONDAY. Try and By BENNETT CERF- ONE OF THE DEANS at N.Y.U. recently engaged a young history professor in a game of ping-pong. The young professor, too eager to show his prowess, was way off form and was soundly trounced. "You tightened up too much," the dean told him when the match was over. "After this, try to remember an ad age I've repeated to my self since I was a boy: a teacher should never be taut." A pompous history pro fessor from the U.S. was Invited to address a group of university students while he was 1811101; Tokyo. The Japanese dean acted aa in terpreter, writing the gist of the professor's remarks in Japanese symbols on the blackboard. Soon, however, the Japanese dean put down his chalk and stopped writing1. Later the American professor asked him why. "Here In Japan," explained the dean with a respectful bow, "we only write when the speaker says something." Old-time baseball fans never will forget Babe Ruth nor Grant land Rice's tribute to him, written Just moments after the Babe had passed on: "Game called by darkness: let the curtain fall, No more remembered thunder sweeps the field. No more the ancient echoes hear the call To one who wore so well the sword and shield. The Big Guy' left us with the night to face, And there is no one who can take his place." 0 by Bennett Cm. Distributed bjr King Features Synaiol Lack of Closet Space Is No Bother to Tree Frog He successfully removed his outer garments coat and shirt, pants and shoes in a conventional way; it was how he disposed of them that was so unorthodox and star tling. The time it took to ac complish the act wasn't exact ly ordinary cither. In fact the entire performance bordered closely on the unbelievable. Yesterday he had been a bright alert little tree frog; now he seemed to be desper ately sick. He pulled in his legs until his tiny feet curled up. His head was bent down until the broad mouth rested on the ground. He appeared about half his natural site. He lnnlrnH n if hf hurl shrunk. To all appearances he was about to expire in a pllllul little heap. Convulsions Suddenly he began lo kick. One leg after the other was extended to Its full length, straight out from the body, then withdrawn with a shud der. Convulsions rocked his frail frame; lie rolled over and over; he turned backward and forward somersaults. He opened his mouth as if he was gnsping for air. There were limes when he reared tip on his back legs, stretched his head even higher and then fell over on his back. There he would rest a second, then begin again the complete body-roll, lie made a barely audible sound, as it gasping. Humped over like an in verted letter U he began some strange action with his fore feet and opened his mouth. A closer examination reveal ed a string-like nbjeel cross- 6 A. tl 500 DOWN Near Phoenix, Sturdy Ffanie House, 2 BR. down; just little finish wotk will make A 3rd upstairs. An irregular line ap peared on the sides and back of the little body. It was the outer skin rolling up, one end of which he was poking into his mouth. With his forefeet he reach ed back over his shoulder, trying to grasp the loose end of the skin. Several times he stopped his pulling long enough to roll over, twist side- wise and stretch. Then he re sumed his squatting position, hands over head, like a man trying lo remove a sweat shirt by pulling it off, Working Out of Skin lie began to work his legs and feet out of the old skin Me rubbed his limbs on the ground, pulled at the loose skin wlfh both feel. He was undressing, removing all his outer garments, disrobing, right down to his bare skin by pulling it all over his head. And all the time he kepi. right on swallowing. He was. actually swallowing his own clothes as fast as he was tak ing them off. More correct ly he was swallowing him self naked by the use of his ! tongue. Once the lust shred came loose It disappeared down his throat. He was in his new clothes, all bright and shiny. He now had on his new suit; he had had it on all the time. wearing it under the old. He had shed his old, badly worn and much loo tight clothes and he had swallowed them all, pants, coat, shirt and s hoes. Poor little guy - what an effort. And It must have born a little painful. It's a fortu nate thing he doesn't have to change clothes too often fir lie would have no lime to ac complish anything else.
