Concert, Dinner Planned by PTA Central Point - The winter concert ot Central Point Jun ior High school and the an nual chili feed sponsored by the Parent - Teacher associa tion will he held Thursday, December 13 at the Junior High school. Serving will be gin at 5:3(1 p.m., and the con cert will be at 8 p.m. The band, under the direc tion of Harry Meyers, will play "On Parade March" written by Mr. Meyers, a medley of spirituals and other numbers. The chorus will sins five numbers. This la the major money raising event of the PTA. The membership Is still short of the H00 anticipated number, it is stated, and there will he a hooth Thurs day night for those who wish to join. Projects Completed At Illinois Valley Illinois Valley - A total of $2:10.56 worth of dresses, quilts and other items have been completed by the Zu lelma Illinois Valley Nile club, it was announced at a meeting of the club Decem ber 4. The Items will be sent to the Sbriners hospital in Portland. The club members also made a donation to the hospi tal for a Christmas box. An other donation was made to the Convalescent Relief fund. Mrs. Vivian Deaton was hostess to the grovip. Announcement also was made of a ceremonial to lie held December 12 In Klamath Falls. This will replace one previously scheduled for De cember R in Ashland. The local December meet Ing has been canceled in fa vor of an annual party to In held on January 4 in the Dan ' Piper home when a pot lin k dinner will be served. Travelers Viiit II o r n b r o o k -Overnight guests recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs A. W. Spearin Jr. were her father. Ben Schuld and Mrs. Schuld of Oregon City. Ore. The visitors were enroute home after a trip to Los Angeles to see a new granddaughter for the first time. The baby is the daughter of Mrs Spear ins brother, Don and his i wife. Clubs Plan Dances For Week End Three square dances are planned in the area for this week end, one for a special purpose. A benifil square dance will be held Sunday, December 16, with funds from the event to be given to the fami ly of the late Fred Foust, who was a well-known square dancer of the area. The dance will be held at the Country Square on Colver road, Tal ent, from 2 to 5 o'clock. No potluck refreshments will be served, but coffee will be furnished. All dan cers and callers will be wel come. Twirlers The Twirlers are planning a dance for Saturday, De cember 15, at Wilson school, Johnson and Corona streets, and are hopeful that the fog will lift so that dancers will not need "a Rudolph" to help them find their way. This will be the Twirlers Christ mas party and it will begin at 8 p.m. The committee slates that prizes, surprises and refresh ments are planned. Gifts cost ing no more than SI each are to be exchanged; women are to bring a gift for another woman, and men for a man. The Twirlers extend an in vitation to all square dancers and state that a pound ot coffee will he given to each cluh which is represented by one full square of eight dan I ccrs. i Applegafers The Applegalers Square Dance club plans a Christmas dance December 15 at Provolt Grange hall. Byron (Buzz) Dibble will call, and all dan cers are invited. Dancing will begin at 8:30 p.m. and re freshments will be potluck. Dinner Montague - A family din ner December 1 observed the birthday anniversary of Charles Schultz. The event wns held In the home of Mrs. Schultzes' mother, Mrs. Etta Enselc In the Willow Creek area near Montague. Others at the dinner were Mrs. Schultz, their son and daugh ter. Recent recipients of voca tional scholarship grants from the Medford Altrusa club and from the National Al trusa Founders' fund will be honor guests at the annual Christmas party to be held Tuesday, December 18 at 7:30 p.m. In the home of Mrs. S. Ralph Dippel, 1 Eastwood drive. Hostesses will be Mrs. Dip pel, Miss Katherine Fonken and Mrs. Lucine G. Miles. Mrs. Miles, vocational chairman for the club for the last two years, will present the guests, Mrs. Jean Ann Griggs, Gold Hill, Mrs. Mar guerite Rick, Central Point and Mrs. Muriel Hector, Med ford. Mrs. Griggs received a year's scholarship tuition from the National Founders fund of Altrusa, the presenta tion having been made by Mrs. Walter Young, Altrusa president, at Rogue Memorial hospital where Mrs. Griggs is in training at1 the Southern Oregon School of Practical Nursing. Mrs. Rick received a similar grant from the Founders' fund to take busi ness training at the Robinson School of Business and is now employed at Bear Creek orchards in the office. Mrs. Hector was given a grant by the local club to retrain her self in business college, has completed her schooling and is employed at the Oregon Granite company. Altrusa's local and nation al project is to assist older women to obtain training to re-enter the professional and business field to support their families. Mrs. Miles announ ced that funds are still avail able for this purpose and ap plications from any woman left alone to maintain her family will be carefully con sidered by her committee. Since the project was adopted in 1954 under the presidency of the late Bertha Haskins, two older women have been trained as teach ers, three as practical nurses, and five as business women through these Altrusa voca tional scholarships which are used in local institutions of learning. The money is earn ed each year through the Al trusa place mats which are given away to local groups for use at public events and which advertise local merch ants and Industries. Wood ward, 1480 Oregon street, has been Mr. Woodward's sis ter, Miss Leonore Woodward of Albany. She was on her way to San Jose, Calif., to visit other relatives. Minister Gives Club Program Ashland-The Christian sig nificance of Christmas was brought out in music and mes sage at the Wednesday meet ing of the Women's Civic club. Oregon Federation of Wom en's clubs. The Rev. James Sinclair, minister of the First Church of Christ, presented the Christmas talk and sang after which Mrs. Milo O'Harra, pro gram chairman, read a Christ mas prayer. A noon luncheon was serv ed from holiday decorated tables by the hostesses, who were the Mesdames W. J. Chipman, Bessie Moore. Laura Scars, Beulah Mackay and F.thel Jones. During the social hour thai followed the pro gram members exchanged gifts from around the Christ mas tree. O'Brien Couple I Home From Trip O'Brien Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Johnson returned last week from a trip to California where they visited Mrs John son s brother-in-law and sister. Mrs. Donald Lee, Friendly Service chairman, will pre sent the program which will feature a short play describ ing this year's Friendly Serv ice projects. In addition to making 10 layettes to be sent to Leban on, the local churchwomen are providing money for table linens for Toagaloo college in Mississippi, Bibles for In dia, and the migrant ministry in Idaho and Oregon.
