FRIDAY. First Presbyterians To Hear Assistant Minister; Westminster In the absence of Dr. D, Kirkland West, minister ot First Presbyterian church, the Rev. David Brown, assistant will sneak at both services Sunday. Dr. West will be in Grants Pass where he will speak at both services observing the 7 5th anniversary of the founding of First Presbyter ian church. Mr. Brown will speak on "No Room in the Inn." Mrs Nancy Kahlor will sing "Great Peace Have They Which Love Thy Law" for both the 9:30 and 11 a.m. ser vices and the youth choir will give the anthem entitled "Come Thou Long Expected Jesus" at the first service The chancel choir will sing for the second service. San ner, pastor of the First Church of the Nazarene, 520 North Holly st., returns this week from the annual Pas tor's Conference at Gearhart, Ore. His sermon topics for the Sunday services are "Are You Spiritual?" for the 11 a.m. service, and "The Will of God" for the 7 p.m. service. Perry Christiansen, minist er of music and education for the local church, lias an nounced the music. At the morning service the sanctu ary choir will sing '"ITiou Didst Leave Thy Throne", and Jack Delmonle will sing a tenor solo. During the eve ning service music will in clude a clarinet solo by Judy Arnold, a vocal solo by John Finkbeiner, and a number by the Fishermen's male quartet. Officers Elected By GH Youth Group Gold Hill Kenneth Cur rey was elected president of the Gold Mill Christian church youth group last Sunday. Miss Joan Hilkcy was elected secretary-treasurer. The minister, Dewey V. Jef frey, and his wife will direct the youth group meetings each Sunday at 6:30 p.m. A party will be held Sunday al 5 p.m. followed by the regular meet ing. MLDFORD, OREGON Christian Adyocate Article Written ByManorResident Chicago - In the city the church can learn from busi ness. Just as business first makes a comprehensive sur vey of the city's living and travel patterns, location of housing areas, business poten tial, and other pertinent fac tors, so the church should do this also. In the Nov. 22 "Christian Advocate," Methodist pastor's journal, A. Ray Neptune of Rogue Valley Manor, Med ford, retired advertising ex ecutive, and named -"one of the country's outstanding lay men" in 1961 by Religious Heritage of America, outlines such a plan for aiding the church to reach a maximum number of citizens. An analysis like that sug gested, writes Neplune, might indicate a need for: special units to serve the down-and-outers; a program to work with laboring men, perhaps with labor unions; specialized services to deal with areas that breed crime and juvenile delinquency; a new, large church near a shopping cen ter where there is plenty of parking space; church schools or training centers in areas where preaching services arc not indicated; church school at different hours than other church services, possibly on week days, and church-school unils located near homes where children can attend with their everyday com panions. Furthermore, not only would the most outstanding church men and women of a particular d e n o m i n a tion throughout the city be called upon to serve in such a city wide church, but ministers would be given specialized du ties best suited to their abili ties and preferences. However, such a program requires more than a survey, concludes Neptune. "Without a real spirit of evangelism and of love any Christian program will fall short of its goal." The showings will be Tues day, Dec. 4, and Wednesday. Dec. 5. The doors will open at 7:30 D.m with the film ; starting at 8 p.m. Coffee will be served following the short subjects and the feature will start about 8:30 p.m. The film was chosen as "best motion picture of 1961" by the National Board of Re view for Motion Pictures and was selected as "the film best serving the national interest" in the mass media awards of the Thomas Alva Edison foun dation. In addition it has re ceived 16 other U. S. and international prizes, citations and trophies.
