Dickie, being held in Ada bounty jail in Boise for the Slaying of a 10-year-old girl, Wednesday was charged by -Elmore county authorities Jiere with two counts of first .degree murder in the Johnson Tlayings. ' Dickie said he hoped to free 'Anderson so the airman could ''sue the authorities for false Srresl." J But hours after he was clear ed ' y the civil court, Andcr- on was arrested by Air Force Authorities and charged with The slayings again Tuesday jiight. He was placed in the Stockade at the air base. An Air Force spokesman said Anderson needed psychiatric care and charged that the slay ings had been premeditated. The base commander, Col. Charles A. Allard, appeared before a federal court judge in Boise Wednesday to answer why Anderson was being held by the military when cleared by the state. Judge Chase A. Clark ac cused the Air Force of "Ges tapo methods" in its handling of the murder charge against Anderson. Then he delayed the hearing for a week while the FBI goes over the case to determine if Anderson's civil rights had been violated by (he Office of Special Investi gation interrogation. Clark' said that he under stood it was the policy of the Air Force to turn such matters over to civil authorities for prosecution - "Unless they have some ulterior motive." He said he could not under stand why the Air Force had brought murder charges against Anderson for the sec ond time since the airman had been cleared in a state court. "It's kind of an insult to the state court for them to be in here at this time," the judge said, of the military. "This was decided by the state court It is plain the state court re leased him under a very strong order because there was no evidence he committed the crime." Clark said the case had roused a good deal of feeling in this area. Clark then impounded all Air Force records on the case and said that if Anderson was taken from the air base it would be in violation of the court's orders. At a news conference later, Allard said an "informal" military investigation failed earlier this week to clear Anderson. He said the Air Force felt it was its duty to carry the matter to comple tion. Student Appeals In Behalf of Woman Inmate Salem - lUPIl - A 24-.vear-old University of Oregon student called on Gov. Mark Hatfield Wednesday and asked him to commute the death sentence of Jcannace June Freeman. 21. The student, George Nea voll, Eugene, is an acquaint ance of Miss Freeman's. He said he met her in Eugene prior to the 1961 slaying of Larry Jackson. 6. who was thrown into central Oregon's Crooked River Gorge. It was for this slaying that the Freeman woman was con victed of first degree murder. Miss Freeman won a stay of execution in Jefferson County Circuit court at Madras last : week, pending a possible ap peal of her conviction to the j U. S.
