NOVEMBER 25. 1962 B 3 Ashland Baptist Church Is Setting for Marriage Ashland Miss Earline Kay Rogers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Almus Rogers, 177 Gar field street, became the bride of William H. Elder Jr. in a ceremony performed Novem ber 4 at 2 p.m. in Calvary Baptist church by Bishop Wil liam H. Davis of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The date marked the twenty-ninth wedding anni versary of the bride's parents and the sixteenth birthday of the bridegroom's sister Miss Lois Elder. The bridegroom's parents are Mr. and Mrs, William Howard Elder Sr., 1491 Oak Patch road, Eugene. Newlyweds Make Home In Medford Mr. and Mrs. John Harvey Swenson are living at 205 Portland avenue, Medford, fol lowing their wedding trip to Portland. The bride is the former Miss Kathryn Diane White, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur E. White, 1059 Morrow road, Medford, and the bridegroom's- parents are Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph E. Swenson, 3470 Table Rock road, Central Point. The wedding ceremony was performed by the Rev. John E. Simon in St. Peters Luth eran church, at 6 o'clock in the evening, November 14. Mrs. John S. Murphy, Eu gene, was honor attendant and Richard D. Swenson was best man for his brother. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a pea cock blue silk sheath dress with jacket and her corsage was of orchids. Mrs. Murphy's sheath jacket dress was of baby blue linen and her corsage was of white chrysanthemums. Family members attended the wedding and the reception given by the bride's parents in their home. Out-of-town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Swen son, brother and sister-in-law of the bridegroom. The bride is a cashier em ployed at Burelson's Ready-to-Wear shop. She attended Grants Pass High school. The bridegroom, a fireman for the City of Medford, attended the W. F. West High school in Chchalis, Wash. Members of the wedding 1 .. XT. t-i.- r-i ents, maid of honor; Mrs. Ray Martin, sister of the bride, and Miss Lois Elder, the bride groom's sister, bridesmaids; Peter W. Grush of Kingsley Field, best man; Ray Martin, the bride's brother-in-law, and Larry D. Rogers, her cousin, ushers. The bride's gown of white nylon net over satin was bal lerina length. Her bouquet was an arrangement of pink rose buds and white chrysan themums. She was given in marriage by her father. The three attendants were gowned in pastel frocks of pink, blue and beige with matching lace overskirts and carried chrysanthemum bou quets harmonizing with their dresses. Miss Joyce Hassel played the organ for the wedding. Shades of yellow chrysan themums decorated the church and also the Rogers' home where the bride's parents gave a reception for more than 40 guests. An autumn theme was used by Mrs. Norman Klavano who made the wedding cake. Mrs. Lavina Harney was in charge of the guest book. Mr. and Mrs. Elder drove to the coast for their honey moon and after November 18 are at home in Klamath Falls where the bridegroom is a meteorologist stationed at Kingsley Air Force Base. He is a graduate of South Eugene high school. Mrs. Elder has transferred from Ashland high school and will be a member of the senior class in Klamath Falls. t Council Member To Attend Session Mrs. Fred Rankin, 18 Rich mon avenue, plans to leave Tuesday for Salem to attend the quarterly meeting of the Oregon State Council on Ag ing. As a member of the Community Service commit tee she will meet previous to the main session with other members of that committee. Enroute she will stop in Eugene to visit the Senior center there, and from Salem will continue Wednesday eve ning for Portland to obtain additional articles from the Senior Craftsmen of Oregon headquarters. "What Delta Kappa Gamma Means to Me" was the topic Miss Delie Whisenant used in bringing out the excellency, Finnish Traveler Guest in Medford Miss Marjo Luhtala of Ku rikka, Finland, is a houseguest of Miss Carolyn Mencke, 2141 East Jackson street. Miss Luh tala and Miss Mencke arrived at the home of Miss Mencke's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray mond Mencke for the Thanks giving holidays. Miss Mencke is a junior at Stanford uni versity. Miss Mencke, as an Ameri can Field Service student in 1959, lived at the Luhtala home in Finland. Since that time Miss Luhtala visited in Medford for six weeks during 1960 and last Christmas Miss Mencke visited at the Luhtala home while she was a student at Stanford university at Tours, France. Prior to arriving in Med ford, Miss Luhtala visited in New York City and Wiscon sin. She will return to Stan ford with Miss Mencke today. Friday evening Miss Luh tala was honored at a party at the Mencke home following the Medford-Oregon City foot ball game. Miss Luhtala at tended the game earlier in the evening - her first foot ball game. 1 Couple Honored On Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Ma loney, Route 1, Box 192, Vilas road, Medford, recently were honored on the occasion of their thirtieth wedding anni versary at a party given In the home of their daughter, Mrs. Glenn Backcs, 111 Lewis street, Medford. Eighteen guests attended. Mrs. Earl Maloney, a daughter-in-law, and Mrs. Howard Statcn, a daughter, served the anniversary cake and poured for the event. The couple has seven chil dren and all attended except one son, who was at his em ployment at the time. The Maloneys were married in Reed, Okla., in a Methodist church, October 30, 1932. Mrs. Maloney Is the former Miss Julia Brown and her family lived in Oklahoma at the time of her marriage. Mr. Maloney was a farmer before he moved to Oregon and now he is employed in or chard work. They have lived in Oregon about 10 years. First Concert To Be Tonight Members of Jackson Coun ty Civic Music association are reminded of the first concert of the season this evening at 8 o'clock in the Medford High school auditorium. Jorge Bolet, pianist, will be the performing artist. This year's season will mark his 25th anniversary on the North American concert stage. He has appeared throughout the world and is known to United States audiences through his tele vision appearances on such programs as the Telephone Hour. Following the concert a re ception will honor the artist at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Dellenback, 257 Wind sor avenue. Others Invited are members of the board and patrons. loyalty, dependability, and friendship of the membership. A memorial tribute to Miss Ina Freeman who died in Sep tember, was given by Miss Gladys Durrand. "In Mem ory' was a duet sung by Miss Florence Allen and Mrs. Os car Bjorlie, accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Alice Wil- lits. After the business meeting conducted by the president, Mrs. Keith Woodward, a ban quet was held at the Medford hotel where Mrs. Paul Smith challenged the group with the topic, "Advancing with Wom en Leaders in a Modern World." The example of Elea nor Roosevelt's numerous eul ogies showing the various types of world personages touched by her was compared to other women's readiness to meet the world. How much background of understanding of other countries and masses of the world and appreciation of other cultures do we have in this shrinking world, she asked. Hostess commitce members were Mrs. J. Party Is Given For Bride-Elect Miss Judy Kay Miller was honored at a bridal shower given at the home of Mrs. G. H. Gadberry, 483 South Ivy street, by members of the Re La Da Sa Women's group of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Miss Miller, daughter of Mrs. Isabelle Miller, is the bride-elect of Gary Ray Sahl- berg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Au gust Sahlberg, Burns, Ore. The wedding is set for No vember 30 at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Lat ter Day Saints, Medford. For the shower the gift ta ble was decorated in blue and white and small bride and bridegroom dolls made up the center arrangement. Nevita Chapter To Hold Dinner Central Point - An annual Thanksgiving dinner is plan ned by NeVita chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Tuesday, November 27, at 6:30 p.m. in the Central Point Masonic hall. At 8 p.m. Mrs. Virgil Goff and Russell Fair, worthy ma tron and patron, will preside at initiation of three candi dates. The dinner will be potluck, but meat wil be furnished by the chapter. Members attend ing are asked to take either a hot vegetable dish, salad or dessert and table service. Mrs. Fair, Mrs. Paul Snook and Mrs. Willard McCullock are the committee in charge of the dinner and Mrs. Luther Day will arrange the decora' tions. Degree of Honor To Moet Monday Degree of Honor Lodge will meet at 7:45 p.m. in the Girl's Community club Mon day, November 26, for a busi ness session and program has been planned for the evening by Mrs. James Stewart. All members attending are to bring a sack lunch. Cake will be furnished. Congregation Sets Christmas The first Sunday in Advent, December 2, will be the date of the fourth annual All Church Christmas Festival workshop of the Congrega tional church. The festival will begin at 2:30 o'clock Sun day afternoon at Hoover school, according to Mrs. Wal ter Bish, co ordinator. During the crafts workshop portion of the afternoon, sup plies and instructions will be available for making wreaths, door swags, decorations and gifts. The youngsters will have a Christmas cookie decorating corner. Especially for adults, and new this year, will be a tin craft project. Mrs. Duane Richardson is chairman of the workshop.
