Alabama, the de fending national champion which was second a week ago, already has stumbled, bowing to Georgia Tech, 7-6, last Sat urday for its first loss of the season and slipping all the way to sixth. The Rose Bowl bound Tro jans, named No. 1 by 16 coaches a week ago, increased their margin this week when they were named for the top spot by 21 of the 35 coaches who comprise the UP1 rating board. Mississippi, like South ern California unbeaten and untied through eight games, was designated No. 1 by eight coaches but received enough solid support for second and third places to make it a race with the Trojans. MEDFORD, OREGON HaPPyCampLinldPSel Has Three On All-Star Happy Camp From the Happy Camp football squad, the Siskiyou County Coaches association has picked three players for the Evergreen All Star team, naming one of these outstanding lineman of the year. Two memberswere given honorable mention. Named to the all star team were: Quarterback Van Hard en, a junior; End, Dennis Hobbs, a senior; and Lineman, Jim Hayes, a junior who was named outstanding lineman. Chosen for honorable men tion were: Kenny Hockaday, a senior, who played slot back, and Bill Nowdesha, fullback. The squad ended the season with a 3 and 4 win-loss record, and a 2 and 2 record in Ever green league play. In the final statistics for six games, excluding the six-man game at Fort Jones, these facts were listed: Nowdesha, senior fullback, was the workhorse for the club. Nowdesha carried 46 times for a total of 357 rush ing yards with a 7.8 average per carry. Harnden, quarterback, led the team in total offense. Harnden was credited with with 804 total yards, 639 yards on passing, 120 yards rushing, and 45 yards on pass es caught. Harnden completed 42 of the 76 passes attempted, seven of these for touchdowns. He had eight passes intercept ed. In the kicking department, Hobbs punted five times for an average of 30.8 yards per kick. He also led in pass re ception and total yards gained on passes, catching 14 passes for a total of 263 yards. On the defensive tackle sheet, coach Kim Bradshaw credited Harnden with 57 tackes, one run back for a TD, and Hayes 47 tackles. United Press International Unbeaten Linfield was passed over Monday when in vitations were issued for the four-team Camellia bowl fool ball playoffs. The NAIA in Kansas City announced Central Oklahoma State and College of Emporia, Kansas, were picked to take part in a playoff to determine one of the Camellia bowl entries. It said the other two semi finalists would be announced Saturday from a group of five schools in the Midwest and South. OSU May Get Sun Bowl Bid Canyon, Tex. - IUPU - West Texas Slate, winner of eight of its 10 games this season, has accepted an invitation to serve as the host team in the Sun Bowl football game at El Paso, Dec. 31. Buffalo Athletic Director Frank Kimbrough said the team's bowl foe would come from the ranks of five teams -Oregon State, Boston Univer sity, New Mexico, Memphis State and Ohio university. Reports from Albuquerque said that University of New Mexico players had been call ed to meet late today to vote I on whether to accept a bowl I bid. presumably the Sun Bowl j invitation. i filled (tackle, end, linebacker, and defensive half-back). The team statistics showed that 1,579 total yards were picked up by the offense, 890 yards rushing and 689 yards passing. The seven game totals for scoring were credited to: Harnden, three touchdowns and eight points after TD for a total of 26 points; Hobbs, four touchdowns, total 24 points; and Hockaday, 24 points also on four TD's. Also scoring were Nowdesha, Rudy Murieen, and Pete Louquet. Final totals showed the In dians scored 98 points while their opponents scored a to tal of 139 points. MslMlftNatttfaajaBliaMau Portland Racing Dates Approved Portland - IUPU - Racing dates for 1963 were approved here Monday at a meeting of the Oregon Racing Commis sion. The commission gave Port land Meadows 55 days be tween April 12 and July 6 for thoroughbred racing and gave Multnomah Kennel club 60 days between July 8 and Oct. 5 for greyhound racing. The commission also ap proved horse racing at the Oregon State Fair for eisht days from Aug. 30 to Sept. 7. Racing at the Multnomah County Fair was approved from Aug. 1-10.
