Vanilla wafers form the crust, are no trouble to arrange and save the time ot making a pie dough crust. This dessert should be made well in advance to chill for serving. Cranberries Versatile Addition to Holiday Fare Thanksgiving time seems th signal of the fresh cran berry season. Cranberry sauce, of course, is an all-time favorite though fresh cranberries lend them selves in many ways to holi day and winter meals, and can make tasty additions in relishes, breads, desserts, salads, snacks and frozen desserts. Cranberry refrigerator pie is easy to make yet special enough for party fare. Vanilla wafers form the crust which holds the creamy cranberry orange filling. CRANBERRY REFRIGERATOR PIE One cup whole cranberry sauce; one-half cup light brown sugar; one package orange flavored gelatin; one cup whipping cream (one-half pint); one-half cup walnuts, finely chopped; vanilla wa fers, about 25. Note that no water is used in this filling. Mix cranberry sauce and sugar in saucepan. Bring to boil. Remove from heat. Add package of orange gelatin and stir to dissolve. Let cool. Whip cream until stiff, add nuts and cranberry mixture to whipped cream. Line 9-inch pie plate with va nilla wafers, arranging them around edge, also. Pour in cranberry mixture. Chill thoroughly. Garnish with whipped cream or walnut halves. Another tasty and easy-to make addition to any meal is Baked Cranberry Walnut relish. BAKED CRANBERRY WALNUT RELISH One quart (one pound) fresh cranberries; two and one-half cups sugar; one cup coarsely broken walnuts, toasted; one cup orange marmalade; juice of one lime or lemon. Wash cranberries and drain. In shallow pan stir cranberries with sugar. Cover tightly with aluminum foil. Bake in 350 degree oven for one hour. Spread walnuts in separate shallow pan, toast in oven until light golden brown, about 12 minutes. Stir together baked cranberries, walnuts, marmalade and lime or lemon juice until well mixed. Chill. Meetings Slated By PEO Chapters Three PEO chapters have scheduled meetings for the week. Chapter BE members will hear a talk on the topic, "New Citizens," given by Miss An nette Gray, local teacher of Americanization classes, when they meet Tuesday, November 20 in the Rogue Valley Manor. Hostesses will be Mrs. L. K. Doty and Miss Mabel Mears. Chapters CG and CP will convine on Wednesday, No vember 21. Luncheon will be served at the Chapter CP meeting to be held at 12:30 p.m., in the home of Mrs. Thomas J. 1 ins Icy, 3368 Hollywood avenue. Mrs. Everett Fabcr will speak on "All God's Chillun" and Mrs. Raymond G. Smith and Mrs. Irving A. Mirick will as sist the hostess. Dessert will precede the meeting for Chapter CG mem bers at 1 p.m., in the home of Mrs. Wayne Welty, Apart ment 209, Hawthorne Garden apartments. Circle Meetings Set for Tuesday The Martha, Ruth, Eliza beth and Esther circles of W e s t m i n stcr Presbyterian church plan nicotines for Tuesday, November 20. Martha circle women will gather at 9:30 a.m., at the home ot Mrs. James Rowan, 828 Minnesota avenue; Rulh circle members will meet with Mrs. Joseph Hcarin, 2517 East Main street; Elizabeth circle meeting will be in the home of Mrs. Ralph Thonipsen. 18 North Modoc avenue, while the Esther circle mcetine, is to be at 8 p.m., in the home of Mrs. Hubert Patterson. 2432 Obispo drive. Men of Unity To Hold Dinner Men of Unity will meet Monday, November 19. at 6:30 p.m. in the Unity Church. Holly and Haven streets, for a potluck dinner. William Turner, president, will conduct a short business session, and Bill Williams will give the devotionals. Harry Harlow Is proiirom chairman. This is an undenominational organization, and any man in terested is Invited to attend. Surprise your family with Cranberry Fruit bread as a compliment to the dinner meai, or when friends drop in for an evening call, or stop by for morning or afternoon coffee. CRANBERRY FRUIT BREAD Two cups all-purpose flour; one cup sugar; one and one half teaspoons double-acting baking powder; one-half tea spoon soda; one teaspoon salt; one-fourth cup shortening; three-fourth cup orange juice; one tablespoon grated orange rind; one egg, well beaten; one-half cup chopped nuts; one-half cup fresh cranber- ries, coarsely ground. Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt. Cut in shortening until mix ture resembles coarse corn meal. Combine orange juice and graded rind with well beaten egg. Pour all at once into dry ingredients, mixing just enough to dampen. Carefully fold in chopped nuts and cranberries. Spoon into greased loaf pan, nine by five by three-inches. Spread corners and sides slightly higher than center. Bake in moderate 350-degree oven for about one hour, until crust is golden brown and toothpick inserted comes out clean. Re move from pan. Cool.
