take on the Riddle Irish. The
game will be at Riddle at
8 p.m.
Riddle topped the Umpqua
Valley league this season and
Phoenix heads the Rogue
league. Immediate prize this
week is the District 6 cham
pionship. "I think (Jim) Consbruck
and (Ron) Williams both will
be ready although Williams
may not be at top speed," said
Phoenix Coach Jack Wood
ward. Halfback Consbruck
has had a charleyhorse and
quarterback Williams an ail
a basic T club. The Irish who
ing knee.
Both are cogs in a versa
tile Pirate offense and Wil
liams has been a particular
stalwart in Phoenix pass de
fense. Cover For Hand
Woodward reported that
the Phoenix staff is trying to
get something made to cover
Dave Weslfall's hand fracture
so that he can see duty at his
regular offensive guard. How
ever, Rick Richey likely will
open at the guard with Bob
Fenton filling Richey's regu
lar tackle berth.
The head coach said that
Paul Diedrich probably will
get a starting linebacker call.
He has done well in late
season.

Unscheduled Match
Takes Play From
Wrestling
An unscheduled match be
tween Haru Sasaki and Nick
Kozak almost took the pUy
away from the wrestling midg
ets on Thursday night s card
at Medford armory.
It all started when Sasaki
put a Japanese sleeper hold on
Ted Evans and then failed to
heed Referee Harold "Buck"
Davidson's orders to break the
hold. Sasaki did break it, but
only long enough to smash
Davidson to the mat.
Kozak came to Davidson's
rescue and the furious skir
mish was finally broken up
when Promoter Elton Owen
came into the ring and held
Kozak at bay while Davidson
brought Sasaki under control.
Davidson awarded the
match to Evans on a foul after
the cunning Japanese ace had
won the first fall with judo
chops and Evans had evened
it with a figure four leg lock.
In a wild match that kept
the good-sized crowd howling
with laughter most of the
time. Tiny Tim pinned Fuzzy
Cupid for the lone fall. Tim
teamed with Little Beaver to
give Cupid and his partner.

Eagle Point, however, on

Saturday hiRhly favored to do
the same thing to the Univer
sity of Idaho.
Baker, the Oregon State
quarterback who is as good
as the OSU publicity depart
ment says he is, ranks second
nationally in total offense and
has been responsible for more
points than any other back in
the country.
As if Baker by himself
weren't enough for the usual
ly under-manned Vandals, the
Beavers also boast the na
tion's leading pass receiver
In end Vern Burke.
The odds are just about
the way Idaho coach Dee An-
aros wants them. He says
Idaho docs better when the
opposition is favored by about
30 points and cites the narrow
25-21 loss to Utah and sur
prise 14-12 win over Arizona
as proof.
Last week end's win over
Arizona gave the Vandals a
record of two wins, four losses
and a tie. OSU has won five
and lost two.
The Beavers will be minus
starting center John Farrell
and halfback Jim Sinyard.
Idaho will be at full strength.
The game will be the 36th
between the former Pacific
Coast Conference rivals. Ore
gon State has won 29 and
Idaho 6. The Vandals haven't
won since 1952.

New York - (UPH - Russia's

the near future - if the United

Although the U.S. did not

Thursday night, 70 HB, on four

The Russian women defeat

A controversy has been rag

truly representative of the na

college stars were not allowed
to join the squad.
Coach Omar (Bud) Brown

all-star mentor said, "This is
the best Russian team I've

real good game, but the So
