Observance Set For UO School 01 Journalism Eugene - An all-class re union of the University of Oregon school of journalism is being planned to commem orate its 50th anniversary. The reunion, to which more than 1,000 journalism school alumni and former students will be invited, will be held sometime during spring term according to John L. Hulteng, dean of the school. A committee made up of i one or more members of each i of the 50 classes since 1912, ! has been appointed to contact ! classmates and circulate news of the anniversary year plans. Other observances of the golden anniversary year will include the visit to the cam pus of a series of distinguish ed lecturers in the field of journalism and journalism education. Each of the visiting lecturers will spend several days at the school, addressing classes, sitting in on seminars and making a public speech. First Speaker The first visitor in the series, Hulteng said, will be Hillier Krieghbaum, chairman of the department of journal ism at New York university, and one of the nation's leading authorities in the field of science writing. He is a for mer member of the UO school of journalism faculty. Currently Kreigbaum is in South America, conducting seminars in science writing at Latin American universities, but will return to the United States in November. He is ex pected at the school of jour nalism during the first week in December. The UO school of journal ism did not come into being as much until 1916, but in 1912 Eric Allen, a Seattle newspaperman, came to Eu gene to set up the first formal program in journalism in struction at the university, so for all practical purposes, the current academic year repre sents the half-century mile stone. When the building which houses the school of journal ism was constructed eight years ago, it was named in Eric Allen's honor. WEDNESDAY. OCTOBER 31, 1962 MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE.
