SUNDAY. OCTOBER 2B. 1962 MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE. MEDFORD. OREGON Open House Observes Eightieth Birthday Mrs. Lyla Tucker, Ashland was honored at a family din ner and open house Sunday. October 14, on the occasion o( her eightieth birthday. The event was held in the home ot her son, Wilbur L. Tucker, and Mrs Tucker, 2233 Aloha street, Medford. Mrs. Tucker's son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs Henry Fiock, Yreka, Calif., were cohosts. A family dinner lor 23 per sons was served, and an open house and dessert buffet fol lowed. Approximately 50 rel atives and friends called dur ing the afternoon. The serving table was cen tered with a floral arrange ment and tapers in turquoUe and pink and the table was covered with a lace cloth which had been crocheted some years ago by the hon ored guest. Clean light bulbs give bet ter light. Wash the bulbs but don't dunk them. The bases of the bulbs are ccmently to the glass and too much mois ture may loosen the cement. Make sure the bulbs are dried well before using them. Mrs. Robert Orr and Mrs. Robert Ohlund, granddaugh ters of IVJrs. Tucker, and Mrs Evcreltu Fiock, wife of her grandson, all of Yrcka, were in charge of the serving table Miss Rhonda Ohlund was in chai ne of the money tree, a gift to Mrs. Tucker from her family and close friends. Le anne Orr was in charge of the guest book. Both girls are great granddaughters of Mrs. Tucker. Mrs. Tucker was born in Sams Valley and was Miss Lyla Conley before her mar riage to Lewis Boyd Tucker of Asnland, Mrs. Tucker has been a widow since 1041. She has spent her entire life in the Rogue valley and maintains her own home in Ashland. She still does occa sional practical nursing, gar dens and maintains an active interest in her family and friends. Mrs. Tucker has two broth ers, Vernon Conley of Ash land and Raoul Conley, Half way, Ore., and a sister, Mrs. Nancy Kricger, Medford. She is the mother of two children, and has three grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Geo. Mrs, 1. D. Fitzgerald won a blue ribbon for this ar rangement in the recent autumn flower show of Medford : Garden club. Entered in the artistic design division for fruit, vegetables and flowers, the arrangement has corn stalks, red peppers, dahlias and bean leaves. Mrs. Fitzgerald won an award for the most blue ribbons in the artistic design division. Next event of importance to gardeners of the valley is the show of dried flowers and other material to be held by the Central Point Garden club Tuesday and Wednesday, October 30 and 31, at the Extension building on the Fair-, grounds. Hours will be 12 noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday. Auxiliary To Hosf Department Head Illinois Valley - Mrs. Jack Larson, department president of the auxiliary to the Ameri can Legion, was scheduled to make an official visit to Cave Junction today. A luncheon in her honor was planned. During a recent meeting of the Illinois Valley unit, Mrs. William Friend Jr., Grants Pass, president of the fourth district, visited and spoke to ttie group on the membership drive which now is under way.
