Telstar Satellite Said Obsolete Salem - WPD - A man who was key in putting the tel star communications satellite into orbit has admitted that, in effect, telstar is ob solete. Dr. D. A. Chisholm of the Bell Telephone laboratories at Murray Hill, N. J., explained that in today's rapid develop ing technology, anything that works is obsolete. "And tel star works very well,'' he added. This was his reply to a question by newsmen at a luncheon here concerning claims by Sen. Wayne Morse (D-Ore.) that present commu nications systems are either already outmoded, or close to being obsolete, because of new developments expected in the near future. Dr. Chisholm also said there is a "glorious semantic argument on what is obso lete." He is on a tour explain ing telstar.
